Still Looking, and need alittle help.

Hi Guys

My names is Steve and live in the UK, I was after for a bit of advice really, I’m looking to buy a Oldsmobile 442 Cutlass S Coupe.

Age around 1968 to 1970’s era I have had classic Corvettes, and currently have a 1967 Mustang. But my dream car would be the Cutlass

However as you can appreciate trying to find one of these beauties’s in England is almost impossible. As I have spent hours on your ebay USA, but tend to find there are all spred throughtout the country And I don’t want to fly over to theUSA and spend around 2weeks driving from cost to cost looking for one. So I was thinking, narrow my search by sticking to the East Cost of America, this would cut down on flight costs, and once purchased, shipping costs.
So here comes the big ask.
1st Does anyone have links to, or knows of any local East cost, forums, web sites or privet classifieds who are selling a 442 Cutlasses.

2nd Does anyone have links to, or recommend any good East Coast Shipping company’s
Unfortunately I do have a budget which is around $20,000 to $25,000 for the car, so I’m not expecting a Show room car.
But on the other hand, not a pile of rust.

(P.S. I apologise in advance for removing a ClassicAmerican car from your country, but it will be loved and looked after. )

Thanks in advance.
Steve.

Is your budget 25,000 USD or 25,000 GBP?

25 grand in US dollars should get you a nice 442 in that year range. Try to focus your search in the southeastern US. The more north you go the more likely the car is to have rust.

I've read that a lot of Brits like buying cars in Florida. I'd start there.

There might be a few dealerships in Orlando and Miami that can help with shipping

Beaky,
I posted a link to a '68 Cutlass earlier today. It's not a 442 but it looks like a nice car.

Anyway the guy constantly has some great cars and sends out an email weekly.
If you contact him he may be able help locate one for you or even have one?
I know he is on the East coast but he finds cars all over.
Hope it helps?

Hi Steve, can't help with sourcing a car in the US, but as for shipping have a word with Russ at R and R hotrod Imports. He is based in Luton, and works with a guy over in New Jersey. They generally have a container coming over every 2 weeks or so.

Also, have a look around Germany / Benelux, there are a few cars in your price bracket kicking around this side of the english channel.

a few links that might be useful:
http://www.marktplaats.nl/z/auto-s/o...categoryId=136
www.autoscout24.nl and .de

Another one to try is Rays Classics - He is based in San Carlos, CA, but again has a partner in the UK who will deal with getting the car landed and duties paid etc for you, he has quite a good rep over on the (uk-based) Rods 'n' Sods forum.

Good luck with your search

I'm glad I don't live in the UK, between the ridiculous insurance rates for young drivers who want anything other than a Daihatsu and the complete lack of muscle cars I'd be a pretty unhappy camper, not that you guys don't have some cool old cars that I wish we could get over here, also I take it that it wont be congestion charge exempt? haha.

I hope you are a social person too, because these cars get a ton of attention from people over here I can only imagine that kind of attention you'll get over in the UK.
