Starfire Antenna Mast Broken,

Starfire Antenna Mast Broken,
Wondering if anyone knows if rear power antenna mast on a 63 Starfire can be repaired. Is there a replacement mast available & can the mast be replaced. The motor seems to be working, at least it hums when the switch is pressed. I would like to keep it original instead of replacing the whole unit.
Thanks a lot.

As long as it's not bent or broken it can be repaired. Otherwise you're looking at replacement. If you can salvage the nut and base you can use one from another similar GM car that uses vertical antenna. Chev-Pontiac and some Buicks use an angled rear power antenna.
If it's just won't extend or retract, odds are the nylon cable inside it has broken. 63 chassis service manual details the repair.

I checked Fusik's & Kanters. No luck. I guess I'll have to break down & get a service manual to see how to fix the Antenna & order the one on E-bay. I fixed one on a "furrin" car (280Z) one time years ago, it was an easy job. 425Starfire, you will love the Starfire, any rear wheel drive Olds really. I had 2 1969 convertibles, a 442 & a Cutlass. Now I just have the 63 Starfire because I don't have garage space. Want a "68" 442 convertible when I get more garage space.

Higgins, just curious- what color is your car? It looks like Pontiac's special order Sunfire Red metallic in the pics, but Olds didn't offer it. Shame too, because it's a nice color. I'm guessing yours is Holiday Red.
1963 CSM will be a worthwhile investment for the car. Even if you can't do some of the service procedures yourself, you can copy the pages to give a mechanic. I can guarantee you won't find many guys around now who worked Oldsmobile Service in the 60s.

Jamesbo, well my fat-cat is pretty smart, he fetches like a dog and comes when called, but too lazy to do any work.
The color is Holiday Red which looks more burgandy in real but I like it. Unfortunately, it is a cheap re-spray, original color, about Earl Schieb quality. The car is a 20 footer and looks better in pics, but a good solid car, no rust or big dings and runs great. A fellow owed me some money and traded the car for it. I've always been partial to Olds, as I mentioned I've had two before and was actually looking for another when this came along. I'll fix things a little at the time. I just ordered a service manual.
