South central WI - restoring a 1969 Oldsmobile 98
South central WI - restoring a 1969 Oldsmobile 98
Thought I would introduce myself. I inherited this car from my Dad. It was his father's car. Started doing a restoration. The frame itself is a bit rough cosmetically and there is a bit of rust on the hidden bits, but the body is pretty good. If I had a lift, the space, and the ability I would have done a frame off, but it is not really needed. I am learning a lot here. I just joined the OCA. Any other olds enthusiasts in WI feel free to drop me a line, especially if you are working on a project too.
I am replacing brake lines, brakes, and will likely have some suspension work. The radiator leaks but it runs just fine. I am more or less figuring it out as I go. I am bit concerned with screwing something up, but that is half the challenge I guess. Case in point, I sandblasted the gas tank. The inside was fine, but the outside was rust. I have heard from several people since that you should not sandblast a gas tank since they are so thin that it will lead to pinholes. I had to solder all of them up. Lesson learned, but I am not a believe in rust encapsulation.
I keep hoping I will find a retired guy who is an olds guru and is bored and looking for a project to help on. LOL
