Searching for my dad's W30 Convertible

Hello!

I'm hoping someone might be able to help me locate a car originally owned by my dad. It's a 1968 White Olds Cutlass 442 W30 convertible. It has a white softtop, white vinyl interior, black flooring, automatic transmission and 8 track player. My aunt, Robyn Hollman bought it in 1999 when my dad died and added racing stripes and rally wheels. She sold it in 2011 to someone named Tim in the northern Indianapolis area. I know, as of September 2013, Tim was actively restoring the car to it's former "sleeper" car glory. My sister would love to contact the current owner of the car. I am attaching pictures sent to my aunt in September of 2013 by Tim. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!
Joleen Ramon

someone else with a bit more knowledge of 68's 69's can chime in but that car is actually a 68 or 69 not a 70 or 71 - looks like a great car no matter which year it ends up being.

Joleen,

The car in "Tim's" pictures is a 1968 convertible not a 70 or 71.
(Dash mounted ignition switch is one giveaway)

Good luck in your search.

Do you have a plate number (former or current) or a VIN? Good luck with your search!

The car was discussed on this board a couple years ago.

The gentleman who posted details about this car has a handle name of "w30" on this board.
I would send him a message to find out the details about the car. It might be hard to get a hold of him as there has been no activity from his "w30" handle on this board since April 11, 2012.

Hopefully another board member knows the contact information for "w30".

It's a start!!!

Good luck,

Cheers,
Sam

I did a google search just now, and there are 2,044,323 people in the northern half of Indianapolis named Tim. Good luck!

If you look inside the driver's door you'll see the mount for the vent window

That car is one of the few documented 68 W30's out there. What's even more rare about it is it's a W36 stripe delete. The stripe was added (incorrectly).
If it was only a 4 speed

I'm wondering if it is indeed a W36 stripe delete. The documentation is for the Y74 delete of the Y70 GT. And that is SOP for the W36.
Sure there is the emblem location issue, and talk about no stripes, but I'm looking for something more positive.

I thought the W36 was still punched on the card even if the W30 was ordered and the W36 is not punched on that card?

The stripe was NOT factory added. It was added by my aunt between 1999-2011. My dad would have rolled over in his grave if he'd ever seen the car with the stripes!!!

Depends what the protocol was. I don't know one way or the other. Arguments could be made either way. Recessed wipers are not punched either. Rare that we get to see documentation like this, and I make no assumptions for how these are handled. Also looking for more hard evidence that a W36 stripe delete (and that would only be possible on a W30) would mean the emblems go back to standard 442 locations. So there are a few things here that we are getting a better look at.

Sorry, no offense intended. We're just scrutinizing the factory paperwork to get a better understanding of not only the cars, but how the production systems worked.
We understand the stripe that is on the car now was not factory added.
