Cool Reception of Firebird Transams powered SBO's

Are Firebird powered SBO owners well received on the board?

Just curious.... I am a fan of the Olds small block having learned by default with 79 Firebird TA .403.

I have a project where I am swapping engines temporarily to refresh my 403 as I restore my Firebird (low miles orig. 33k miles & numbers matching)
I have been blessed with getting a .330 HC for temporary use. Excited as it will be a lot of fun.... I am figuring I will have > double the HP than my stock .403 . I hope I dont get spoiled.

Thanks to LemOldsNut user for the 330

Of course you are welcome here. You will find lots of people that know a lot and are very willing to help. Post some pictures of your car when you have a chance.

Some of us Olds owners LIKE the 2nd gen Trans Ams, even if they are Olds powered.

Absolutely, we love them. My wife would also not be against me getting one either. I am finally assembling my 424ci 403 stroker, just a 330 crank offset ground. You can get much better parts now than even a few years ago. Consider Cutlassefi's 4" stroker billet crank with aftermarket rods and a piston with a 1mm ring pack. If that is too many dollars, get as light a piston as possible with a modern thin ring pack and aftermarket rods. Mine has Venolia custom pistons with a .043" top ring, 1.5mm second ring and weigh 550 grams have a .927 sbc pin on Scat sbc 6" rods. Also don't use the stock 4A heads unless you are willing to spend a lot of dollars porting them, the exhaust side is horrible on them. A roller cam and better heads go a long way.

Hey, we're car guys and gals. Why wouldn't we appreciate iconic cars?

You can't get much more iconic than the T/A, especially for people of our general age group.

Good luck with your fun project. Keep us posted as it progresses (with lots of pictures).
