The Pon-olds is back.

Well I finally signed up. I've been around for awhile reading all the stuff but, now that I'm working on the car again I decided it's best to sign up. I drive a 74 Pontiac Ventura Sprint, I never did like the Omega or Apollo front ends. The Nova is ok but, I still prefer the Pontiac front ends. Engine is a stock 1970 (G) head (2.0"/1.6") 455 long block except the cam, intake (now), headers, and carb. The car has dipped into the 11's once (11.98) and was told to slow it down because I don't have a roll bar, I see the rules have changed now. Anyway the last time I raced we had a 12.50 cut off so the car is set to run that, usually @ 12.54. The car will do a 1.58 60ft with slapper bars but right now it does 1.63-1.64. My nephew is bugging me to run the car so we fired up the dusty old beast, I can't wait to see him make a run. I'm trying to make up a set of Assassin traction bars to stop the spinning. I'm from Winnipeg, Canada and I have a very diverse background including a automotive science course in college and I have worked with a couple of Top Fuel racers.

Cheers
Ray

Welcome to the site, got any pics of the rest of the car. It's cool that you are getting your nephew involved in the hobby.

Welcome. Note that "G" heads would be from the 1971 model year. 1970 455s used "E" heads.

Actually I do but, they are about 20-25 years old and the car has had some body work (better body work) done to it since. I call it my budget bracket bomber and it;s consistient as hell. It's amazing how life can make your pirorities change, now that my wife and I are empty nesters, I'm finally going to get the car the way I want it, a mix of old and new. I won the Midas Muffler King of the Hill Race, which is a testament to the consistent nature of Olds power. Winning run was a 12.959 on a 12.95 dial-in and I had a .502 light on a .500 tree. Nice cars oldcutlass and I like that signature.

Few more PICs

Few more PICs.
The last 2 pics are of my friends car I use to work on, the one day I miss he looses control of the car. Sad to say he doesn't race any more for several reasons.

Yah Joe Mondello said something like that also but, it came out of a 1970 Delta 88 and had a (Huge) 2 barrel carb on it. Joe said it might have been a Canadian thing or someone might have changed them, no biggie I'm not keeping them, I need more flow. I have a second motor that came out of a 1971 442 with 'G' heads also, that one I'm keeping for a street motor when I retire. In all my years I've seen a lot of wierd things, in the old days they didn't use JIT manufacturing and used whatever they had on the shelf. If they ran short they would use something similar, also, start and stop days weren't written in stone. The worst was dealer installed options, owners rarely kept the paper work.
