Oldsmobiles in the U.K.

Hi from over the Atlantic in the U.K. where me and my mate Roger both own Oldsmobiles and had them for over 20 years. Mine is a 72 Cutlass Supreme and his a 71 442. Sorry to say we are not matching numbers types but instead do whatever it takes to gain a tenth or two at the track, hence we both use cowl induction hoods, but at least our engines are all Old's. My first trip up the quarter netted 14.4 with a stock 455 but now it has run a best of 11.83 @112 on the motor and 10.73 @125 with a 200 shot of gas. Roger's 442 is a bit more serious running high 10s on the motor and a best of 9.75@136. People here say watching us launch side by side up the strip is an awesome sight, it certainly feels good. I actually run a musclecar club over here where we have a mixed bag of muscle the quickest being a little Nova that runs 8's, just google surreymuscle and you should find us, cheers, Paul

Yes, an '87 Delta 88 Royale Brougham. Apart from a trans cooler it's unmodified, I might get a 17 out of it on the strip but doubt it will ever see action there, FWD has no place on a drag strip IMO.
I've been down Shakespeare and pod but only as crew for a guy who used to race a nostalgia slingshot.

Look out for D250 FDX at Wheels day and say hi!.

Roger.

Hi Lady 72 and Rob 71, quite a coincidence that me and my friend in the U.K. have same year Oldsmobiles as you. Rogers 71 442 was all original at one time but a day at the dragstrip changed all that and now it gets trailered there before running high 10s on the motor and 9's on gas. My car is not so highly strung and gets driven everywhere including the 200 mile round trip to Santa Pod Dragway and thats with gas at $10 per gallon ! Paul.

Welcome to the forum. Pretty nice rides. Don't see too many Olds powered cars running that fast, even around here.

Thanx for that, from the photo looks like your Old's is the original green that my Old's was, my car also cruised around New York before coming over here in 1975. I got the car in 1989 so we been together now 23 years, that's longer than i've been with the wife and the Old's is prettier, hope she don't read this !

Welcome to CO Paul, it's so polite of you to address Rob's car as well. I bet she loved it. Really nice cars you two have, I bet it would be a real site to see them launching together side-by-side.

Yes we have had a few showdowns, one of the best was at the Mopar Euronationals one year as the sun was going down and he ran a 9.7 to my 10.7. Even though I have owned the car for 23 years I still get a buzz every time I fire her up. I then pull out of my garage as soon as possible as with the noise and vibes and that resonance you get around 900 rpm you think the building is giong to come crashing down!

Oh yes when we pull into gas stations it blows peoples minds especially when the noise from the engines starts setting off car alarms, and if i come across anything at a set of lights anything goes Picture 018.jpg
