Here it is.... it’s a little bit of a project at the moment. The car was originally Code 34 Reef Turquoise, with a white vinyl top and white bucket seat interior. Engine is the 455/4bbl, numbers match. Trans is the original OW code piece. It’s a Lansing car, so I have a better chance of hitting the lottery than finding the build sheet!
Plans are for a very stock looking car, but with improved performance enhancements. Not sure on the color yet, doubt I’ll go with Code 34, it’s a little “beachy” for my taste. The car is black/white at the moment, don’t know about that either. Sherwood Green and Burgandy Mist have my eye.
Welcome to the group... Good luck with you project... You joined the right group of Oldsmobile enthusiasts to assist you along the way should you need it...
Welcome to the site, Nice to know someone else in the Huntsville Area is on board. I live in Madison AL.
Wow! A Rallye 350 here in my backyard....
I had a F85 car, bench seat, column shift (like all the F85 Rallyes were), and my dad had a "S" car with buckets and a console. Lots of great memories attached to those yellow cars; both long since been sold (how many more times must I kick myself).
I've got an Athens address, but I'm actually just south of Ardmore. Let me know anytime you need a hand with something! You should bring your car out to the Athens cruise-in when they fire back up again. It's always a great time.
Looks like solid car to start with! Color choice is always a personal thing. I agree with you.... I'd stick with stock 1970 colors. On my 66 Cutlass I skipped the butternut yellow and went with the factory 1966 Oldsmobile white. Congrats on the car and I wish you the best in your build!
Nice car. If it has an OW trans, it came from a W30 car, the correct trans for your car would be OD. What heads does your motor have?
Yup. I had brain fade on that one, it’s an OD calibration trans. The heads are small valve (2.00 intake/1.625 exhaust) E heads.... they’re the machine shop now, getting guides and hard exhaust seats.
The exhaust valves in these heads were recessed as badly as any Olds heads I’ve seen. I’ve done valve jobs on C heads that were slightly recessed, but nothing like this. The intake valves were fine, but the exhaust valve faces were sunk close to .080”.

Then you really have no choice, just make sure your machinist equalizes the stem height correctly. Good luck with the restoration. 08A is a very early build for a SX
I’ve used this machinist for my guide and seat installations before; he’s really sharp. I usually do my own valve jobs, and try to keep the valve locations the same so that my chamber cc’s don’t vary too much. Tip heights also end up being pretty uniform; I have always used adjustable rocker arms on the Olds motors that I have put together in the past, and that has always helped.
Welcome back to the Olds world! I always thought reef turquoise was a neat color, it's really rare to find a car painted in it, though it's definitely "beachy." Looking forward to watching your project progress.
I recognize the name... was on ROP back in the good old days. How stock-ish appearing are we talking here?
I’m seriously considering doing factory intake/exhaust manifolds, Quadrajet, points distributor, and full accessories (A/C, P/S, alternator). Just to see what can be done on a reasonable budget, and maintain good street manners.

We've done that a few times... can easily make 430-450 hp and 520-535 lb-ft, turns into a pretty fun street combo. Surprises a lot of people.
