newby needs help finding a 1966 dynamic gas tank
New to this but we just picked up a 1966 Dynamic 88 convertible last weekend in the UP that needs a new fuel tank among other things, looked everywhere on line, some are close but not exact. Any ideas?
No way to resurrect the old one? I don't think new ones are made for this car. Barring getting the old one repaired, another one will have to come off of a parts car, and you're just going to have to keep doing what you've been doing. Call junkyards, especially those in the southwest, and ask.
I did a search just now on this website, and it turned up one gas tank for a '66 88. I didn't call them to see if they actually still have it.

If these people don't have it any more (I've found that these used parts places don't always update their online inventory very quickly), there are other yards that let you search their inventory online. Just google "used auto parts", if you haven't already done so, and start searching and then making calls if you get a hit.

We saw an ad on Craig's list for the 66 Dynamic 88 rag top, It has new top, seats, rims, tires said it drives and runs well. LOL we made it back 3/4 way driving it home and it quit, had to flat bed it the rest of the way. Gas tank leaking badly but it will run when we put the gas line into a boat tank, at least we can move it in the yard, speedometer is disconnected, air doesn't work, back windows are stuck in up. All fixable small stuff . Will need new paint but looks good, body and frame seem sound. It will be a very nice ride when we get finished.
So tell us what you mean by "new." New as in made in 2010? New old stock? Or just new to you? Since the filler neck doesn't reach, I'm guessing it's not originally meant for a '66 Dynamic 88, so I'm guessing it's new as in made in 2010 or an NOS piece that's being modified to fit your car. Where'd you get it?
It is 2010 new, searched everywhere, finally saw a close match (Spectra Industries # GM37G) online at classiccarautoparts.com but called to ask questions. They said it was the right part so we ordered but of course it wasn't. They said to weld in the filler neck hole and make a new filler neck hole. Our area welders wouldn't/couldn't so we opted to move the tank back on the frame using longer straps and will have to lengthen the filler neck. It works and is drivable until we can either restore our tank or find another?
