Newby from Manitoba

Hi. My name is Rick and I am an Oldsmoholic! I grew up with a couple of older cousins that drove nothing but Oldsmobiles which fed my pashion and love for the big boats of the 50's and early sixties. As an early teen I spent many a weekend cleaning parts for their engines which gained me a free Mountain Dew or RC cola. It was worth the effort. I beacme a complete car-crazed kid. Forward a few years and I started building farm equipment in the family business and did hotrod stuff in my spare time. First for myself, then my freinds and finally for friends friends, until I finally opened a chassis shop. Lo-Boys Rod & Custom was born in the late 70's and became my sole business in 2000. In this time I have assembled many vehicles of all makes, but have never lost my love for Oldsmobiles. One of the first chassis jobs I took on was an early model '48 Olds Sedanette. I installed a Camaro clip with a 455/TH400 in it. Out back a 12 bolt Chevy diff on stock suspension. The car never was finished by the owner. It sat in his shop fora all these years with a few things changed here and there. One day I received a call from the owner. He had retired a few years previous and was on the move. "I need to let the Olds go to a good home. Do you know anyone that may be interested" he said. I replied with "Yah. Me!" Now the car is mine. It no longer has the 455, but I am working on resolving that issue. I look forward to bantering with all you fellow Oldsmoholics. More to follow! Rick

Welcome to the site! It sounds like you've got a cool project car to play with. Hearing about it is fun, but do you have any pictures of it yet? citcapp will be along to greet you soon. He also has a 1948 Olds that's not exactly stock. John

Once I figure out how to post pics, I will do so! Looking at a 4-door parts car this week, but with this time of year, it is tough. We had a foot of snow last night. Makes it a little difficult to go tin hunting! I also have a '63 Starfire coupe sitting in the sidelines.

I've been using a photo hosting site called photobucket. I'll upload the photos to that then do a copy and past of the image into my message here.

This thread includes Jamsbo walking through another way to post pictures.

Welcome to CO

Sounds like a twin to my 48 Olds "work in Progress" Post some pictures. They are cool cars. We can discuss the fine points. We have more than a few fat fenders on site and a number of them are the sedanettes. Dan "Oldsguy" has a 46.

Watch out 442's here we come

Welcome to the best Olds site around ! I am from Saskatchewan {Saskatoon } originally and now live north of Toronto. Did my doctor training in Winnipeg . Great to hear you've got future Oldsmobile plans and we look forward to pics. The members here know pretty well all things Olds so ask away and you won't have to "reinvent the wheel " with your project . We're under 3 feet of snow here in Ontario , but I remember Portage and Main being pretty damn cold any time after November !Merry Christmas Derek

Anytime you want to clean any parts come on down this way and I will not only give you a Dr Pepper but I will throw in a moon pie. Really liked your story.

Welcome to CO, Rick; can't wait to see pictures of the '48. Talk about a sneaker! Oh, and Snowballs, down here we always called it an "R-uh-C and a moonpie"! LOL!

Up here it was an "Arrah-see co-cola and a moo-pie". A Moon Pie is similar to a Scooter Pie, only better. Except for them 'nanner Moon Pies... not hardly fit to eat.

I've never seen much artificially flavored 'nanner that was.

BTW welcome. And thanks for sticking with Olds for the engine. Most guys immediately start bleating "put a SBC or LS in it! so it'll be reliable!"

Pfft.

Hi Rick; Welcome to CO...don't mind Derek, he's just excited that he has enough snow to try out his new Christmas snow blower...as for me, my trusty broom can handle the one foot we have in the sunny south if I get three feet or more, the Oliver will be in the attack mode...
