Newbie with a Vista Cruiser

Hello Folks,
I just "inheritd" a 1969 Vista Cruiser. It is Bamboo Creme, hence the name "Mellow Yellow". I have known the car for years, and always liked it, so now its mine. It has some rust, but runs great. I have driven it extensively for the past couple of weeks. I have big plans to really make it look nice, rust repair, fresh paint, replace some of the glasses that are cracked. I think the car would really look great with some sport wheels and a 442 hood. I have read enough to know that there was no "ram air" hood in 1969, and that the repros are fiberglass, which evidently are very low in quality.
So will a 1970 hood fit? Are the $700 fiberglass hoods really that bad? Or should I just forget it and leave the flat hood alone?

If you are still reading, here are some interesting facts about the car...
It is a "base" model, no AC, am radio only, hardly any accesories at all. Does have 350 automatic, PB, PS, and a map light in the mirror. The gate has the electric window, which works properly. There is no "third row seat". But it does have the vista roof, and draws a lot of attention anywhere we go. Every 50+ year old used to go to little league in one of these cars.
Thanks, Ben

what are your paint plans ? The 70 hood is what you would have to put on it .
The vista hood is the same as the 442 hood in 69 , other wise you could pick
up 69 h/o scoop.

Every day I have a different plan, one day go stock, the next day custom. So I'll have to let it settle in my mind. For now I am cleaning, removing rust, making some repairs.

I'll keep a look out for a '70 hood. I also like the 15" rally wheels. Thanks for the reply

Welcome

That's my favortie coloro combo

Having once owed a 69 H/O, I'd leave the hood alone. The 69 H/O hood looks cool but it hot so good on seeeing out the front.

My Vista has 15" SS II wheel, that I like.

Yours looks very nice. I'll keep an eye out for a 1970 hood, if that will fit. My '69 hood has some pretty extensive hail damage, so I've gotta do something anyway.
I like the colors on your vista, how you did the color on the car instead of the wood grain. very nice.
I'll also look for some 15" wheels,
Ben

Welcome to CO, Mellow Yellow! Love them V/C's (and FlatTops, too!), for some reason. Make it the way you want it, that's for sure. Nice lookin' Oldsmobile. Once again, welcome!

I've seen that car

I've seen the gray wagon in the Olds Club Magazine. It looks really nice, and is an inspiration for me and my VC.
Tell me more about the car, I know you have done a lot of work to it.
is there a story on the car here on the forum somewhere?

Nice car welcome to CO.
Thornton makes an induction hood for a 69.
