Newbie from Virginia

Almost 20 years ago I purchased a numbers matching 1969 Olds 442 from a couple here in Virginia. The original color is trophy blue with black interior, black vinyl topt, bucket seats, a/c, 4 speed Muncie and12 bolt posi. I paid a guy to paint it but it came out looking worse than before so I let her sit until now almost 20 years later. I recently retired from a demanding law enforcement career and started tearing her apart for complete restoration. Hoping some of you have some good engine pics to aid in my restoration. Some of my pics to follow.

Welcome to the site, post some pics of your car when you get a chance. There is a lot of info on this site and many years of experience with these cars, if you have any questions ask away.

Welcome! The '69 442s have always been my favorite year, a convertible was my first car back in H.S. and I now own a '69 H/O. Good luck with your project, there are some true Olds experts here to help.

Wow, you have a Canada vehicle. Don't see many, esp. a 442.

Ironically, my first 442 was an Oshawa-built 1968 that I got in MA. The OP's car will have a Chevy 12 bolt instead of the Type O axle.

Going slow

I'm taking my time and doing her right. I'm just about ready to marry the body back to the frame.

Looks like a Type "O" Olds rear end.
Why the shock extensions ?

shock extensions were there when I bought the car. I have no idea what they are good for. Can you advise?

My guess is that they lift up the rear of the car and needed to extend the shocks to fit and still have some damping effect.
if you to have the car sit normal in the rear, maybe take them off. Also make sure they are the correct shocks for the car.
For the most part hard to say why they did it. Did the car sit higher in the rear when you got the car?
