Newbie in So Cal

Hello, I'm new member from Southern California. Just bought a rusty 57 Super 88. It's a four door post but my wife and I prefer four doors. It runs well but a lot of rust and frozen bolts. Looking forward to working on it and hope to maybe get some help with questions from this group. First thing, I'm trying to replace the whole speedometer cable but it doesn't seem to budge at the fire wall. Any trick to getting it out? It goes behind plate, do I need to remove the plate?

Welcome to Classic Olds.Good luck with your new project. You might get more help by posting your question in the Vintage Section. That's where most of the "Mid-Fifties " guys hang out. Sorry I can't help you out ,I never had to remove the whole cable on mine. Larry

Welcome aboard, the best advise I can offer now is have you purchased a 57 factory motor manual it is the best investment you can put towards your car. They come up on Ebay from time to time or they may still be available from Fuicks as a reprint.

I had a 57 quite a few years ago but the speedometer was never a problem so I'm no help there but on a 55 It can be unscrewed from under the dash and the cable pulled out for repair or lube. That may or may not help you.... Tedd
