Hello, I am new to the forum. I have a 1966 Dynamic 88. Trying to find an A/C compressor. Does anyone know what other years would fit? I live in the Chicago area. Thanks!

 

I believe these were A-6 compressors and many GM cars of the era used this type of compressor. I think there are some though with a superheat switch and I dont think this is correct for a 66. You need to compare with your original one if possible. The last one I bought was found on EBAY for a 66 Sfire.

You'll want to replace the accumulator/dryer and the orifice tube at the same time. Also, flush the evaporator and condenser and replace the O-rings.

 

I think they still used expansion valves in 66?

 

Go to the Rock Auto site and look it up then click on the highlighted number in the listing and it will cross-reference it, they'll be a few compressor brand and type choices.

The compressor itself may cross, but some years has over/underpressure switches and some had the superheat switch. I think the switches could be changed out externally but not for sure.
What is wrong with the old one? If you have it, it could be rebuilt by various places like Classic Auto air. This way you keep your originality, it is totaly restored, and will be guaranteed to fit (cause it is yours...)
All components of your system can be doen this way, too. This will be my adventure in a couple years...
