Newbie Here - Just bought 68 442

It has all the right stuff to be a W30, but missing the all important docs to prove it. I don't really care, because the car is just a blast to drive, and I don't plan to sell it. It also does not have the original motor, but a mystery 455. I say mystery because I have no idea what that motor came out of. I plan to rebuild the 455 over the winter of 2014/15, so I am beginning to plan now. I'll bore you with the excruciating details in the near future. For now, I just wanted to say hello and introduce myself. I have done considerable engine work in the past, but mostly BBC. This will be my first OLDS rebuild - (picture of me - cartoon balloon over my head, and I'm thinking - oil restrictors or not??) so, I'm sure I'm going to need just as much help as I can get. All of that later - for now, just a friendly howdy! No, I am not from Texas.

Nice looking car...have fun with it! As you get into the engine, there will be people here who can tell you from where it came. And this is a great site for obtaining info on your car as you work on it. It was highly beneficial for me when I did my restoration in the 2004-2007 time frame. Enjoy!

Welcome!
A few members on here told me that once I put the 455 into my 68 442 I would keep the original 400 on the shelf....I think they were right
Have fun with the rebuild...

Killer color combination

I also have a 68 442 w/455 and I also have rebuilding plans for it. That's the best color combination in my humble opinion especially if the interior is Garnet Red. Is it?

Welcome aboard.
Glad to hear you're plans are to enjoy it.
The 68 442 came with a 400 CID, not a 455. If you want to know what year the engine is from, check the engine stamping pad. If it's an Olds 455, it will have the casting
396021 F and the pad will have 3(_)(_)123456
3
(year) 9,0,1,2,3 etc
(plant) Letter codes: M, Z, G, E or the number 1 - Oshawa
123456 - last 6 digits of original donor car VIN

If the heads are original the letter code can also help identify the model year.
