Newbie with a '56 Olds Super 88

Hello all, I just picked up this '56 Super 88 (owned it for less than 24 hours) and I'm very excited. She is rough, and needs a fair amount of work, but is almost rust free, and the driveline is solid.
The plan is to fix her issues, remove the janky repairs from a prior owner (and the horrible flat back paint job), and turn it into a mild custom. I've got tons of questions, but will ask them elsewhere.

Welcome. Post some more pictures when you get a chance. The vintage oldsmobile forum on this site has a lot of information and help.

Your new car must be running pretty good. The Agawam Diner is a long way from Providence!

I took it for a 10 minute test drive, paid the guy and drove it 2 hours home. It was a bit of a trial by fire, but handled it fine aside from developing a trans leak that is probably the front shaft seal.

Welcome Super 88 owner

Cool looking 56 Olds. I’ve got a 55 Super 88 in original condition. Look forward to seeing what you do with yours. I’ve just made mine drivable after sitting since 1978.

Late to the party but welcome aboard. Your car looks like it has good bones and should you need any help most of us here have been in all of the trouble you can get into with a mid fifties Old's and with help have gotten passed it. As mentioned above we tend to hang around the vintage forum but most any forum will get a rise out of one of us....lost in the fifties ...Tedd

WOW! That's a beauty. We see mid 50s converts, sedans, and 2 dr hardtops but a 4 dr hardtop, that's rare!

Most likely your neutral safety is out of adjustment. the previous owner probably never did what you did and just bypassed the switch and added a push button. If mine I would put it back to original but I see cars all over now days going back to the push button style....Tedd
