Newbee with a 1965 Cutlass f85
Hello everyone,
My name is Doug and I bought a 65' Cutlass (in my avatar), back in April. This is my first Olds, so for the last several months I've been lurking on here reading and attempting to learn Oldsmobile. I fell in love with this car three years ago, so from the first time I saw it, I tried buying it, it took three long years and a couple of events, but I do have the car. Now I'm just soaking in all the info I can on the SBO and really anything Olds. I haven't done much with it in the short time I've owned it, I did put a new two core aluminum radiator, a 180 degree thermostat and new hoses on it, played with the wiring a little and got all the lights working properly (except the high beams, a story for another time). So, I guess you could say I've just been feeling it out to see how it is. I have a chassis manual for it thanks to eBay, so it's been some help. The gentleman I bought it from was into old Olds and Buicks, he concentrated on the carb, cam, trans torque converter and the rear end and rear end gears. The car I bought has the original 330 SBO in it, with a Edelbrock 1405 (600cfm) carb, the trans is what I believe to be a TH350, but honestly I haven't put the car on stands and crawled under it yet, although soon, I do know it's a three speed though. The rear is a posi out of something with 3.73 gears, I need to get up under it soon and take a good look and some pics of it. The car has a little rust in the normal places, front/rear windshield channels, a little in the trunk, and the drivers floor board, but for being 54 years old, its not bad at all, and I love it, so I guess that's all that really matters. I retired from the Marine Corps in 2005, and went to work across the street from the unit I retired from, I live in Southern California and have three adult (questionable these days), children, my wife kind of shares my enthusiasm for cars, just not the ones I like! But, we agree on almost everything else, we've been married for 32 years, so I'm sure we have influenced each other some. That's about it from my end, once I have some more time, and figure out the posting requirements I'll post some pics of the car. I look forward to picking up some knowledge from you guys, and in turn, and time, I'll pass it along as well. Thanks for taking the time to read this. Doug

Thanks Dick,
Let me see if I can figure this out some and post a couple. I don't have many but I did manage to pull this one out, it was in Car Craft in 1999, so 20 years ago which is kind of cool.

Eric,
Thanks! It's nice to be here, I look forward to gaining new knowledge on the Olds. I think it's got a lot of cool aspects, the person I got it from is pretty cool, has a huge amount of knowledge but I haven't been able to get ahold of them since April, and unfortunately their memory isn't doing that well. Thanks Tj Pal,
The car has some history and that adds to it's coolness in my opinion. The person I got it from is one of the coolest people I've ever known. I got lucky when I met him in 1998, he had some really cool cars, all Buick and Olds. Doug

Thanks again Dick,
Thanks to eBay, I have two copies, one signed by the person who I got the car from and the other just with the rest of my hoard! I look back on my time in the Marine Corps and it doesn't seem that long, but 22 years, 3 months, 2 weeks, and a couple of days is a lifetime! Then I think, man I've been retired for 14 years, that's crazy to me also. I'll have to come up with some more pics, most of what I have is on another computer, the ones I took for research mostly. Doug
