Hello

Hey, just finally joined after months or years of reading this stuff in an attempt to figure out what I'm doing. Thought I'd introduce myself.

I've got a 1970 Olds Ninety-Eight with a 455 in it. I'm the 4th generation owner, but the car's bounced around to a lot of different people in the meantime. Decently newly rebuilt motor, a bit of rust, lots of nasty in the bushings, decent body except where it took out a telephone pole at 40mph (not me driving) and an interesting number of zip ties...

Finally got my hands on a dwell meter and some air tools, so later today I'll be having some fun. I'll probably be in here a lot in the next couple of weeks.

Welcome!
I assume the car has been in your family since new or are you the fourth owner?
As you probably know, pics of the car would be great!

I found that wording a bit confusing, too. What does being a fourth "generation" owner mean? That the car was purchased originally buy your great-grandfather? But the car has also "bounced around to a lot of different people in the meantime" which suggests it's had way more than four owners, and not all of them were family. What matters, if number of prior owners matters at all, is how many owners there have been, not how many were someone else's offspring or something like that.

My great grandpa bought it for his wife, after they died my grandpa and dad drove it until it was toast, parked it in a field for a few years, then when I was a kid dad pulled it out and rebuilt the motor, gave it to my uncle who did some body work and stuff on it and gave it to the other uncle, who wrecked it into a telephone pole and parked it for a while. 2 and a half years ago I bought it from an uncle and now I'm trying to save it. (A refreshing experience for someone who's mostly worked on newer stuff) So... I think I'm the 6th or 7th owner, counting everyone.

But hey, the motor's strong enough.

I just barely got done towing it home with a Mazda MPV after it got heat soak right in front of the NAPA store. *facepalm*. Soon as my everything thaws out I'll go pull it in the garage and get started.

Pics will come when I get all the snow out of it.

Without too much trouble, it seemed. The older MPV's are worth more than they look. Bought it as a temporary car... 10 years ago.

Sounds like a keeper, welcome
to CO. You will find a lot of help here.

If the body is junk, a 68-72 Cutlass would
be just the spot for that BB.

Thanks

Horrible day yesterday. Starter wouldn't crank, and I knew it was grinding so I spent about 4 hours in a snowy ditch under the car putting a starter in with 10 in. of clearance (I'm skinny). Then it still wouldn't start, so I finally tested the ignition switch. Should've done that in the first place. Now I have to figure the timing out so it will start again so I can get it off sidewalk.

Good times. I hate snow.
