New from Winnipeg, Canada

Hi. New guy here from Winnipeg, a hot-bed of classic cars. Never joined a forum of any kind before, so might need a little help. My cars: a 1970 Cutlass Supreme convertible, owned for 25 years, and a 1966 Olds Ninety Eight, owned for seven, I think. I'd post photos, but have no idea how. I need some advice on some minor stuff, but don't want to clog up the forum improperly. For now, I guess this is just an introduction. Name is Paul.

Thanks. Here's a try at a pic. It's the '66, of course. Bought at an auction for $1,300 in 2003. Wasn't in bad shape at all. Interior almost immaculate, other than the front seat. Always stored indoors and rarely winter driven, I've since found out. Runs great. Restored the body couple years ago. Had it done right (although not frame-off or anything). If I need advice on something, do I simply ask here or somewhere else?

OK, my issues are: 1, I re-did my trunk weatherstrip last fall; and it was tricky as hell, didn't know which way the thing tucked into the groove. Of course, I'd thrown my old one out earlier, so couldn't even compare them anymore. Anyway, water's been getting in ever since. It looks right, but I'm thinking it must be wrong. Any ideas?
And 2, you may have noticed I've got Buick Wildcat rims on it. They're 15". I'd love to go original, with the proper hubcaps. But I'm told they were only 14", which seems awfully small for a big car like this. And who knows if I could find the rims or hubcaps. Suggestions? And thanks a bunch for the warm welcome. I'll get some pics of my 70 Cutlass up soon.

AS far as the water entering the trunk goes it was pretty common for the rear window to leak into the trunk as well. Easiest thing to do is hop in the trunk with a light while someone sprays the car with a hose.

Yes they were 14" wheels. The rims might be hard to get but the hubcaps com up on ebay all the time.

With someone you trust.

Hey, welcome to CO. Take a photo of the weatherstripping and someone can compare and let you know, but it surely could be the rear window leaking. I think you should be able to find some 15" wheels and use some similar wheel covers from perhaps a 98 of the same year. That way you can keep your tires and the comfortable ride.

Thanks guys. I highly doubt my leak is the rear window. Had all the rust around it repaired during major body work a cpl years ago. It only started leaking after I replaced the rubber last fall. I'll try the light test (I trust my wife, I think), and I'll try to get a pic of the rubber up here soon.

As for the rims, are you saying there are covers from '66 that were meant for 15" rims?

And Craig, the weather in Winterpeg this weekend is sunny and warm (25-27C, 75+ F). How do you like that?!
