New to the site

Hello, My name is mike and I have had a profile here for a while yet i have never posted. Mainly do to lack of time with my car. She is a 1964 Olds Jetstar 88 hard top with what I think is a 330 (99% positive just need that confirmation). I have had her is 2002. I did some work on it for a couple years to clean it up and get it going. the interior was pretty much gone when i got it, motor had a bunch of sludge in it transmission hardly has any miles on it but leaks like a race horse. College and living in an apartment got in my way of doing more to it. I finally have a place for it to come live with me and i am picking it up friday. I have a set of bucket seats and a center console for it from a 65 starfire that i got recently that need to be redone. I was hoping to either make it faster or just get a whole different motor. I have a edlebrock performer olds 350 intake manifold on it and a demon 650 cfm carb on it. The heads need rebuilt or just out right changed however the exhaust manifolds are cracked right at the bolts and once they come off they will not bolt back up. any input on where i can find parts, stock, oem, performance would be great.
Thank you

Nice looking car, and yes, the stock engine would have been a 330. Be aware that the 1964 330 motors have a lot of one-year-only parts like the heads, shaft-mounted rocker arms, water pump with driver-side inlet, balancer, timing tab, and accessory brackets.

Thanks, how would identy the year the motor was made? Also can a 330 be made powerful? Or would an engine swap be a good idea? I am not married to the motor at all. A strong 455 would be nice however

Unfortunately, you can't prove the year of your motor because 330 motors didn't get the VIN derivative stamp that included the model year - Olds didn't start using that until the 1968 model year. If your motor has the water pump with the driver's side inlet and shaft mounted rockers, it's either a 1964 motor or someone went to great lengths to put the 1964 parts on a later block.

As for the HP, the 330 is a good motor with a forged crank, but it's still a small motor in a heavy car (with the Junkaway, er Jetaway two speed trans). A different trans with a lower first gear (2.52:1 in the TH350 vs. 1.76:1 in the Jetaway) will make a huge difference in off-the-line acceleration. Of course, nothing will wake the car up like a big block, and a 425 or 455 is nearly a bolt-in.

I have been reading that the 64 jetstar has different mounts for the motor. Do you have any links to a how to or a motor swap thread showing how to fix this?
Also any links to where i could secure a 425 or 455. Summit and jegs seem to only have chevy crate motors and i really dont want to do that to my olds.

The 64 J88 motor mounts are unique to that car and year. No one repros them so you must reuse your old ones or get them revulcanized by Steele Rubber if they are bad. Any 1964-1990 Olds motor bolts in with the factory 64 mounts.

Welcome to CO, very nice looking car. I agree with Joe, you should find a BBO for that car, 425 or 455 will fill the ticket.

Keep in mind that if you elect to use a TH400 or 200-4R, the trans crossmember will need to be moved back, and since these transmissions were not available in the 64 cars, the frame rails are not drilled for this. You'll need to drill new holes. Also, the TH400 will require a custom shorter driveshaft with a larger front yoke.

Thanks for that infomation, i would like to get a 455 and a TH400 in the car eventually. I got the car to my place today some pics at the bottom, it barely fits. Good think i got it inside finally its supposed to rain pretty good tomorrow. My dad was kind enough to let me keep it at his place since 2002. Does anyone know where i can get the window seals and sweeps for the car?
