New from San Diego

Hi folks -
I've been reading your forum since I bought a 71 Cutlass S in November. It seems to be in good shape - 85k miles. No through rust - some surface on the hood and doors, a little in the trunk and under the seats. Has a really bad dent on the driver's side and a smaller one on the passenger rear quarter. At some point it was painted a really drab green, rather than the original Palm Green. Green cloth bench interior. 350 2 bbl. I replaced some hideous 17" spokes with 15" rally's and BFGs.
I'm taking it slow, just replacing the typical under the hood and going through the suspension replacing with stock bushings, etc.. When I know she's safe and dependable I'm going to drive the heck out of her for awhile and see what she says to me. Some pics attached. Tom

Welcome to our site. Always glad to have another new member! I'm glad you took the spokes off of her... I can't stand those! Sounds like you're doing the right things to start, and I hope you enjoy many miles with her!

Welcome to this site! It's a great one and you will find a lot of people with some real Olds expertise. You have a real neat car, too - enjoy it!

CDR sounds like USN or USCG talk! I did 2 years at 32nd St as the USCG liaison to ATG back in '94 to '96. One of my most favorite duty stations. Lived up in Rancho Penasquitos. Retired in 2000.

Enjoy this site for all it is worth. It's loaded with goodies!

Thanks for the welcome. I checked Balboa Park today for skaters at Jamesbo's request, but I think it was too hot for them today.
And Randy C. I retired after 28 years in the USN. I got fed up when I spent 3 of the last 5 in the desert rather than underway.
I misspoke, I put on 15 X 7 SSII's not rally wheels.

Welcome aboard CDRTom. 21 years for me, retired in '95, tried to get back in after 911 and they said I was too old! Nice looking '71, I owned one when I was stationed at Moffett Field, sold it to a Second Class Ordinancman just before I transferred to Japan.

Also from San Diego

Tom-
Good to see someone else from SD...the best place to own a classic. Took the 1966 Dynamic Convertible out for a drive yesterday and got a sunburn

Neat stuff! San Diego was great and we enjoyed it very much. We still have a house in Orange County and I suspect it will become our winter home in 4-5 years after it's paid off. Nothing better than short sleeve shirts in January and February while most of the nation is freezing off their little hineys! Hope you are enjoying retirement as much as we are!!
