New Owner From Alberta, '64 F-85

Hey everyone, picked up my first old car ever about a month ago. Found a 1964 F-85 in an alleyway and picked her up from the PO. I guess I'm the fourth owner in line now and hopefully the last. Everything works smooth, finally getting used to not having power brakes and working the three-on-the-tree. First to second is a little iffy but second to third is buttery smooth.

She has some rust on the quarter panels by the wheels no thanks to many a Canadian winter I imagine and the two bench seats are really rough. All the glass and chrome trim is intact though which is a real treat. Anyways this is Lana! Hope to get to know the forum a little better in the days ahead.

Cool, hopefully all your exterior trim is there as it was aluminum and did not hold up very well and is very difficult to find.

Very cool. I don't get to see many four door 64's. Good luck with the new ride!

You bought the car from the prior owner? Who else could you have bought it from?

He could have bought it from the son, daughter, grandson, wife, estate, auction, anyone having power of attorney...to name a few.

With the exception of an estate, all of those are just representatives of the owner, not the owner him or herself. The grandson, for example, may be acting for the owner, and the buyer may deal with him, but he is only representing the owner as it is the grandfather's name that is on the vehicle's title.

The point of my post was that, strictly speaking, to say you bought a car from the "previous owner" is redundant as that is the only person you could have bought it from.

If the owner has died and the car is part of his/her estate, then, yes, you are buying from the estate, but in this case the estate is the owner, and you are still buying from the owner. Ditto for a case where a car might have been repossessed and is now owned by a bank. If you buy that car, you are buying it from the bank, which is the owner. In both cases, my point still stands.

Thanks everyone! Looking forward to getting her back to the glory days. Thankfully all the trim is there and it's just some minor bodywork first on the list. Then a repaint of the midnight blue. Should be a good project for the summer.

memories

This car used to sit out NE of Calgary on secondary highway # 9. It sat there for years. I thought of pursuing it several times as a parts car & eventually it sold & went to Calgary. Glad to see it did not end up in Pick-A Part minus the manual trans parts.
