New owner 67 Cutlass Supreme convertible in NJ

Hi everyone, I been lurking for a while and figured I should introduce myself.

Found a barn find September 2019. 1967 Cutlass Supreme convertible. White with light blue interior. Black convertible top. Grey 70’s rally wheels with 245/60-14 BFGoodrich Radial TA’s.

Previous owner had the car since 1996 but for the last nine years it had been sitting in his garage gathering dust and wouldn’t start.

Very nice guy and was very honest about the car. It has dings on every side of the car. Exactly how he bought it. lol

It has the high compression 330 cu. in. motor with Rochester 4 barrel carb. It had a Poweglide but the previous owner had a Turbo 400 installed. He actually purchased a 455 motor and the 400 trans from a 68 olds. Probably a Delta? Has the stock open rear with 3:08 to 1 gears. Gears are too tall for my liking. Not looking for it to be a highway cruiser. Just looking make it a cruiser survivor car.

Needs new carpet and driver bucket seat is ripped. Has the original console with stock shifter and it’s an original AC car.

I got the car running with no issues with the motor. Have to chase down a trans fluid leak. Previous owner gave me a heads up about it.

Looking for advice on exhaust. It has a nice tone with the single but it’s too quiet. I prefer the rumble of a dual exhaust.

Bought the Thornton 350JR dual exhaust manifolds to replace the rusty stock ones.

I see a lot of header back systems but I have no down pipes.

Been reading that some exhausts produce the dreaded drone. Don’t want that. I want loud enough to be able to hear it. That tone is music to my ears!

Sounds like a nice score, not exactly a barn find.

The original trans was an switch pitch ST300 or Jetaway, had nothing in common with a power glide. Is the T400 a switch pitch or a common T400? A 455 will definitely wake the car up and very simple swap if it has all the accessory brackets.

Legendary or PUI interiors carry seat covers and carpet can be had from a slew of venders.

Pypes makes down pipes for your car. You may want to consider setting the exhaust up for the big block if that's the plan for the future.

As far as exhaust in general, If you don't want drone stay away from the Flowmaster or Magnaflow chambered muffler designs and go with a good turbo muffler. I and others use the Walker Dynaflow mufflers.

My barn (garage) find.

This is how the car looked in the previous owners garage. Very solid car. Some dings on every side of the car but complete. Getting done typical rust on both front fenders right behind the wheel.

I plan on putting new carpet and reupholster the bucket seats and back seat myself. Everything else will clean up.

Yes, I incorrectly called the original a Powerglide. lol My general reference to a 2-speed.

The turbo 400 is out of a full size 1968 Oldsmobile that had the 455 motor. It is not the switch pitch. I believe they didn’t make them after 67?

It does have a shift improvement kit and get nice hard shifts that chirps the tires if you get on it. I have no clue as to what torque converter it has but I assume what came out of the 68. Previous owner wasn’t a hands on guy. He had the work done. He still has the 455 sitting in his garage hoping for me to buy it. lol
He said it ran in the car that it was taken out of. His plans were to make a faux 442 with it. Dunno, maybe in the future.

Yes, this site has tons of great info that I have been reading. This is my first Olds.

Give Classic Muscle Car Exhaust a call or go to their website. They carry systems for your Cutlass and will steer you in the right direction.

When you described your car I thought I needed to go look in the shop to see if it was mine, sorta. Mine has a white top.

Good luck with your 67' CS.
