New from MN with 72 Cutlass
Hi, I just joined this site yesterday because I was hoping this site would help me with my project I hope to be able to do one day.
What I have sitting in my yard, or well grandparents yard, being I'm only 19, is a 1972 Cutlass Supreme Hurst? or at least I think so when looking at the title. I'm hoping my grandpa would be willing to put my name on the title because at the moment he has him and my brother who is 21 on the title, but my brother does nothing with the Cutlass and only gets defensive when someone starts talking about wanting to do things to it or buy it from us, although it's not for sale, just sits in our yard on the side.
I finally figured out what I want to do career wise, still art-like ( I am an artist, but not all that good yet, don't experiment enough), is to be a Detailist for Vehicles old and new, Which means I have to learn how to restore an older vehicle, being if I want to do a paint on a car the very best you can, it has to get taken apart.
Edit: Was shown how to open the hood. well the hood wasn't fully closed, but still in a position where you had to unlatch something underneath the hood.

I'm hoping to make this a project car for myself, to fix up and make it beautiful once again.
Hope you like~

Welcome aboard.
Just finished posting on your other thread.
Looks like someone has replaced some parts on your car over the years. The tail lights are 72, but the front grills are 71. You also have the relatively uncommon front bumper guards on the front, but not on the back? Was the car in a front ender at some time? Maybe your grandparents know?
Anyway it's a fantastic project car from the pics.
Can you post the VIN and Cowl tag info? That will give a really good bit of info that can be decoded and tell you a bit more about the car.
BTW, the hood release under the center bumper 'tooth' only releases the primary latch. The secondary latch has a spring tab you lift up to release the hood fully. You can feel it when you slide your hand under the slightly open hood.
I had a chuckle looking at your hosted pics, the engine ones were upside down.

Welcome and good luck with your project. I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but that car is neither a Supreme nor a Hurst. All 1970-72 Supreme hardtops used the notch back roofline (also known as the XX57 body style). Yours is a fastback roofline (the XX87 body style), so it can't be a Supreme. And since all 1972 Hurst/Olds cars were based on the Supreme body, it can't be a Hurst either. It IS a great start on a project, however, and hope we can help with your questions.

If the VIN starts out as 3F87 it's a base Cutlass (series 33287 on cowl). If it starts 3G87 then it's a Cutlass S (series 33687 on cowl)
