Just joining this group but a long time Oldsmobile owner. My dad was an engineer for Fisher body/G.M. for close to 50 years. I have had my 1972 Cutlass S since I was 15 years old- 43 years ago. My dad ordered this car and walked it down the assembly line in Lansing. He ordered it to perform ok and handle well (already had a 65 Gto tri-power). Options include rallye suspension pckg (fe-2), anti spin axle, 350 v8 4bbl, power disc brakes, SS1 wheels with G78 bias ply, am/fm radio ans air cond. So I basically look at it as a poor mans 442. She currently has 68k on the odometer. Sure wish that Gto wasn't stolen from the G.M. tech center in Warren Michigan (1975), or that would also be in my stable. Looking forward to many hours of reading/research.
Oh yeah one last thing, he hated the cutlass s grill and replaced it with the supreme grill.
That is a very nice and unique Cutlass. Do you attend the Homecoming?
I wonder if you dad or you saved any manuals or literature from Fisher? It is said that they had their own PIM which was different than the one used at final assembly. Have you ever seen or heard of one?

It stands for Product Information Manual, and is more popularly known as an assembly manual. They're available from Lansing Assy for the Cutlass, "88" and Toronado. I know a man whom worked at Lansing assy in the late 60s and he said Fisher had their own version of it but he never could get one.
The CSM or Chassis Service Manual used by dealerships across the country was in many years accompanied by a separate FBM or Fisher body manual for everything body related, and are completely different. The PIM was only used for in house purposes.
Welcome!...I'm a new guy as well although I got a 1978 Delta 88 nothing nearly as sweet as your Cutlass but my mother had a 70 Cutlass she used to smoke people with back in her high school years! I'm a ASE master automotive technician that worked for a Olds dealer in Farmington Hills MI since the early 90s up until they dropped and we became a Buick dealership so glad to see another Michigander here and looking forward to shaking your hand and meeting you at one of the Olds meets or a cruise in or show sometime!...I'm Nick by the way!
