New Member - Old Car

I'm new to this forum and just purchased a 68 Cutlass S convertible. Still going through it to see what it needs. It is a number matching all original with 77K miles on her clock. It runs and drives and mostly everything works.

Looking forward to gaining as much knowledge as I can from the gurus here!

Thanks everyone. I have a lot to learn and being it's an old car it has a lot to teach me lol

The more I look her over the more I see that I want to do - keeping it as close to stock as possible.

Very nice! That paint is interesting, I like it. If you can post a pic
of the cowl plate, these boys can decipher it for you too.

Can someone help decipher? I know most of it and the color is real blue. I don't think it is original paint job

First, welcome to classicolds! This is the best site going if you want to learn about your Oldsmobile and if there is anything you want to do to your Olds to make it "better"! I saw your pics and that is a real nice looking car. There is lots of '68 expertise at this site and, when you have questions (as I have seen already that you do!), they will be promptly answered by people who are Oldsmobile-smart. They may tease a bit, too - that's all fair game!

Here's what I see with your trim tag:

06A = time build code = June (06), first week of that month (A), 1968.

ST 68 = style/model year = 1968

33667: 3 = GM division = Oldsmobile; 36 = model series = Cutlass V8; 67 = body type = convertible

BL = assembly plant = Linden NJ

1439 BODY = Fisher body number (no relation to the VIN at all)

TR 949 = interior color and front seat type = teal colored interior with strato bucket seats

L 2 PAINT = lower and upper body colors = teal blue (L) with a black convertible top (2)

That's how your car came from the assembly plant. Over the years, previous owners may have changed some of the characteristics of your car so what you have now may not match what the trim tag says.

Enjoy your car; it is a beaut and you will get lots of attention from it!

Randy C.
