new member from michigan

Hey everyone,Like the title says new member from S.E. Michigan .
The two project cars I have are a 85 cutlass supreme, and a 70 cutlass supreme.

I have had the 85 for a year or so.The 70 I just picked up a couple of weeks ago.

The 85 has had a complete frame off resification. Not back to factory original, but it now has a 403,and some rare factory options.Like all the factory Alum. parts that I could find for it.120 miles per hour speedo.Fiber optics front and rear.

The 70 I have just started to learn what I have and what I'm going to be needing for it.
Here's what I just found out yesterday,I believe that the front fenders are different for the 70 and the 71/72 supreme models. What I was told was that 71/72 fenders have crumple zones that the 70 fenders do not have. The car has a 70 hood on it(has the mounting hole for the stone guard in center of grille).I have no grille parts for the car yet.So am I going to run into a problem with having different year hood and fenders?
I'll post pics when after a couple of more posts.
Thanks for any help in advance !!!!
Larry.

Here are a couple of pics of my projects. One day I hope to get the front wheels pointed to the sky like this without the dolly

If you look close in the second pic you can see the crumple zones that I was told make these fenders 71/72.If someone can confirm this for me that would be great!!!!

This is what the 85 looked like when I brought it home.I saved it from having a chebby motor put in it !!!

The fenders are basically the same so no problem.
The hood has to be a '70 with the '70 core support though.

The '70 only deal is wrong, there were plenty of 71's built with the ridge-less fenders, some are documented as having come off the line with both types.

Thanks for the info Bluevista.
The biggest thing I was told to look out for is the headlight assemblies aren't the same.
I need to get me a CSM before I go out and start spending money on this.

How do I tell the difference between a 70 and 71/72 core support ?

My understanding is that the fenders with the ridges were replacement pieces that were factory. My buddies '70 442 has one that has been on the car since he's owned it...1976.

Welcometo CO. I live in Windsor Ontario, but am still a proud US citizen! I work in Metro Detroit. Great to see more Michiganders here.

The '71 - '72 core supports go more to a point in the front, completely different than the '70's. The headlight buckets bolt to that so maybe they would be different, don't know.
The ridged fenders would of been GM replacements later, they were factory otherwise and once they ran out of the '70 type the '71's had the ridged type along with the 72's.

I'll keep an eye out when I look at pics of 71's and 72's.

Thanks to all that have welcomed me to the CO
