Hi all, my name is Gary and I live in the northwest suburbs of Chicago.
I have owned several Olds since I started driving 31 years ago. 72 Cutlass S,73 Cutlass, 75 Cutlass Salon, My first brand new car was an 87 Cutlass Supreme that I traded in for a Ford cargo van for work in 92. My current Olds is a 72 442 convertable that I bought in 1989.When I bought it it was all original with I guess 123K mi. It is (or was) Sun Fire Yellow with black top and buckets. It had minor rust in all the usual spots, so I replaced the front fenders and trunk lid with NOS parts that I purchased soon after I got the car.I got 2 doors from some guy that were clean and swapped out the guts and hung on the car.Next I had a new top put on, The guy who did it stripped and re painted the top frame and replaced all the weather stripping. I had all this done in the first year I owned the car, driving it all along the way. Then late in 1990 I met this Girl who thought it was nice how I worked on my car all the time.
Fast forward 20 years and 3 sons later,
the car has sat in several stages of disasemnble and dragged to 3 differant houses waiting for her to let me "waste your time and money"
(her words) and do the needed frame off restoration. Dont get me wrong, Ive collected books, parts and done tons of research on my car. Just no real body work.I joined this site a month ago but have been reading posts for over a year along with some other sites for years. I guess i have been living vicariously through some of the guys on here. Well some day.....
I'll add some picture when I can take some

Sounds like its time to start wasting your time and money too me. Lets get started, lots of people on site to give your encouragement and in some cases you might find a new friend to come give you a hand.
Welcome to the forum.
Just this past weekend I was surfing the internet and found a muscle car dealer in Palatine, IL. I happened to be visiting my brother in Homer Glen (far southwest suburb of Chicago) and had the itch to check the place out, but alas it was too far away for my time constraints. Anyway, have you had the oppportunity to check out any of their Oldsmobiles?

I just went on line to look for it and it is about 2 miles from my house on a side street I've driven past a thousand times. Some nice cars on the website, a couple 68s and a few 70 442s and SXs. Ill have to stop by and take a look

That is some top notch parts restoration
. I wish my intake manifold and a/c unit looked that good.I noticed the military figurines in a pictures. There is an HBO tv series called 'Band of Brothers' you should check out. It's a well produced depiction of WWII.
stbluebro, Thanks, I have that series on dvd along with about 30-40 other WW2 movies. I'm a pretty big ww2 history buff along with all my other hobbies that keep me from spending the needed time and money on my car.

Welcome to the site Gary! Thanks for sharing the history of your car with us. I look forward to seeing more pictures. There's a section called "Major Builds" where people are sharing their restoration projects. If you would create a thread there and post pictures of your progress we could all live vicariously with you through your restoration

Hi Gary and welcome to the site. I live in Lakemoor about 1/4 mile from the Volo Museum. I just bought my vert this past summer from a guy in Homer Glen. As far as the dealer in Palatine, its called American Muscle Cars. I've looked at 2 cars he was selling and was disappointed, they were not as described, pretty beat up and expensive.
