New Member, CT, 1961 Olds F85

Greetings,

Just found this forum while searching for info on sisters to my baby - a 1961 Olds F-85. I bought her from her original owner in '83 (or so), and drove her for a few years. All original, but I just had her towed out of the garage she has rested in for a LONG time, and am having her checked out. I may eventually be interested in selling, so I will be visiting the FS and WTB forums.

Looking forward to getting to know people here. :-)

Welcome! Always liked those F-85s, a friend of Dad's had one, and my Grandma had the Buick version! Please PM me if you decide to sell. Roger "Holidaysedan"

Can you tell us more about it? What state are you located in? Welcome to CO.

Thanks for the warm welcome, everyone!

I currently live in CT, and the F-85 is at a repair shop in Albany, NY (where I grew up). As I said, it hasn't been driven in a LONG time (like 30 years), but has been kept in a dry garage during that time, and is all original from what I can remember. Unfortunately, when the garage drained the oil, there was antifreeze in the solution, so - bad head gasket, or worse. This particular garage doesn't rebuild engines.

I'm going to get some additional pictures next week, and do some research, and then decide what to do. If you're seriously interested, shoot me a PM, or look for anything I might post next week in the FS section.

Is this a body shop or a mechanics repair shop?

A small mechanic shop, recommended by several friends with classic cars. The F-85 has a perfect body. ;-)

You referenced that the shop doesn't rebuild engines, but will they at least remove it and send it out for a rebuild... There are several good machine shops in that area... Is your real intent only to sell it or do you have any intention to rebuild it and keep it???

John,

Can you please be patient?

The car was tucked away in the storage garage my father built for his classic cars. I haven't had a good look at it in 30 years. I had it safely removed, and flatbedded to a small garage I trust, and there has already been interest expressed in it from there. I will get to lay my hands on it, crawl all over/under it, and take lots of pictures this coming week. All of that has to happen before I decide whether to rebuild the engine or sell as is. It needs no restoration, except that the original front bench upholstery is worn/torn and has a cover over it.

Ultimately, I will probably sell it, as I also have inherited a 1966 Mustang GT Ragtop. Sorry, I know this might not sit well with the dedicated Olds Lovers on this site, but that baby is my true love, and I don't need to own two classics.

The Olds was mine, since purchased in college from the original owner. I loved her then, and she still holds a special place in my heart, but Dad instilled in me a love of the Ponies, and that's the one I KNOW I will keep.

As I said previously, when I've assessed the F-85, and done some research, I will probably post in the FS section of this site.

Sorry, I only asked the couple questions due to the fact that I live right in the Albany area, and thought I might be able to assist you in some way... Apparently that won't be necessary since you seem to have everything under control... Good luck with what ever decision you choose...

John was just trying to help which is what most everybody on here tries to do. Apparently you have it all under control so we will just sit back and watch.

Thank You, I'm trying to be sensitive to this being an Introduction thread in the New Member area. Other forums I've participated in do not take kindly to mixing sales with informational threads. I promise to post elsewhere when I have more info specific to this car, and I'm guessing I can link to that post from here.
