Welcome to C.O. Nice looking ride. Looks like a Royale Brougham. The opera lights on the B pillar give that away. Fuel cost for driving that shouldn't be too bad. It has the 307 hooked up to a 700R Trans, right? So with overdrive you should have decent acceleration and fuel mileage. My 83 Regency Brougham got around 22 mpg on the highway at 65mph.

You live in a rather unique neighborhood....cars tarped on the street, and parked facing both directions? Most municipalities won't let you do that.

Maybe you can clarify this for me. I heard a rumor that if you live in a major city in LA, you're not allowed to drive a dirty car....

Fuel economy--my dad had a '78 Olds 98 Regency with the 350 4V & 3-speed auto trans (TH350?). I think it had 2.56:1 tail gears in it. I got to drive it on an extended trip across the midwest that year and was surprised to find that it got 21-23 MPG pretty consistently. The speed limit was 55 MPH back then so the engine was just loafing going down the highway. Fantastic cruiser, that car was...

Too bad you never got to drive the 455s. Talk about 'loafing' even when you were doing 70. And that's pushing a BIG heavy car weighing in at nearly 5400 lbs. Back then we didn't worry too much about fuel economy. Also was the day when gas was around 28 cents/gallon and the difference between reg and hi test was only 2 cents.

My mom had a 78 Delta 2 dr. It's what got me hooked on Olds. Awesome car! At least as a weekend cruiser you'll never get bored.

Oh, I had the 455 in my '72 Regency. It was a fine-running car. I think it had the 3.08:1 final drive because it came with limited-slip differential (don't think the limited slip was available with the taller ratios like 2.73 or 2.56, but I could be wrong). With the 3.08 gears, that big old sled would launch pretty good!

My dad bought the '78 Regency new. I went with him to the lot to pick it out. His main concern was that the car have an Olds V8 under the hood, rather than a Chevy. We found one Regency with the 403 but it was a 2-door; he wanted the 4-door. He wound up getting a silver sedan with the red velour interior, powered by a Rocket 350. I was living across the state from my dad in those days but I still got to drive the car on occasion. It was a real sweetheart.
