Replaced leaking fuel pump and adjusted carbs today. Took it by our muffler shop to get rid of the horrendously loud glass packs. He'll do the job next Monday.

So I stupidly hacksawed off the passenger mirror. Wait before you totally write me off or call me a dumbass-'cause I'll do THAT for you now. If it hadn't come with the car I'd have never put one on but since it was already there I'd no choice but to correct the useless thing to be useable...or so I sees it.
But hey, what do I know?

And I already have THE GUY to weld it. An 'artiste'. :-) He thought the same thing ( pot metal ) and then we checked it with a magnet- so he's good to go.
Just waiting for him to call me. He was at the machinist's down the street throwin' a fit about how the machinist is never on time ( quite true ) so I had him take a look and he said pull it off
and I'll weld it-no can do. If I knew how to remove the door panel I'd just buy a proper mirror rather than jerry-rigging this'n.
TODAY: New front and rear shocks, new r/s lower ball joint and new front sway bar links

All kidding aside, you should really replace the mirror. A shop manual will give you play by play instructions. I had a pair of 1974 Twisters and I really miss them. That big front floor and FWD is the bomb in the snow. Is the pass. side mirror a remote or manual? A manual may just come off externally. An inside remote will give some much needed under the dash experience. At least that flat floor helps with the space LOL... I hafta pull my front seat(s) out to get up under the dash. A patched piece of bling (!) is really more of an eyesore than none at all.

You mentioned you checked it with a magnet? I would be shocked to heck to find out it was cast steel and chrome plated. Pot metal pits real easily and that why that trim stuff always looks cruddy. Welding ON THE CAR would need extreme wet towel coverage to prevent welding "pecker tracks" down the door and maybe even a piece of busted glass. It just aint right. Please trust me! That twister is too nice to hack, right? Bill

THe welder was content he could fix it and YES, you're right-will need to protect the paint. Or ...find out the procedure to remove the door panel. lmao
I'm an old Radar Operator ( OS ) from the mid 70's...before the NTDS came into being. Everything was done the old fashioned way- with a set of parallel dividers and a compass and a maneuvering board and wax pencils ...AND YOUR BRAIN. ...Dang tootin'...GO NAVY!
When I bought the car it CAME with the useless side mirror that looked at the SIDEWALK and not what I needed it to.

This was some cosmetic addition:that didn't work and to be honest was VERY distracting.
