New to me 64 Cutlass Convertible

Purchased a 64 Cutlass convertible at an auction a few months ago and brought her home to Green Cove Springs Florida (NE Florida). She needs some TLC but is a great "20 foot car".
Bought to flip her but I quickly decided to keep her after a few cruises. Hope to learn lots about the car and get some help on repairs and clean up.
From what I have gathered she started out as a straight 6 with 3 on the tree. She now has a 455 rocket with a 3 speed automatic. I will be posting in the technical sections to try and learn and decode more.
I look forward to meeting new friends in the classic Oldsmobile world!
Rob

Green Cove!
I’m in Jax. Did you ever attend the Green Cove Dragway when it was up and running?

Sounds like a cool car. I’d love to see it one day.
What are your plans for it?

Never got out to it. I had just moved here and I never made it before they shut down. What was the reason they shut down? It seemed like they always had a good crowd...

Welcome to this site, the best Olds site ever. You'll enjoy it here and if you have any questions you'll get quality advice and answers. It has helped me so much in the restorations of my '68 and '69 4-4-2 convertibles. One of my best friends lives just across the Shands Bridge from you on the north side of the river. If I ever get there to visit, I'll have to come on over and see your new find!

The reason they shut down lies between a number of reasons.
1. Some people down by the river complained about the noise and raised hell and made a mess for the operators of the strip.
2. VW needed a place to store all of their vehicles that were illegally operating as “Clean diesels” and they offered the owners 4x what the dragway operators were paying monthly.
3. The renters/operators of the dragway opted to take a buy out due to an uncertain future.

My next door neighbor was the yard manager at GC for VW USA.
Sad.

VERY, VERY sharp car BTW!!!!

Yes please do! We are on Black Creek and take the pontoon boat over the saint john's side for food and beverages often! Cant wait to take the cutlass over there to a few local "Octane and Caffeine" gatherings!

Doubtful. The previous operators are now running a track on Long Island.

But you should definitely take that car to as many cruises as possible. You will be the only 64 there I promise you.
Not a lot of Oldsmobiles running around this town. If you ever want to meet up, hit me up.

Looks like a pretty nice car. Love the clean lines of a 64. Like Peter said, when you go to a cruise nite you will probably be the only one there!

"From what I have gathered she started out as a straight 6 with 3 on the tree."
In 1964 it would have been a v6 (Buick) not a straight 6. I think 1968 was the first year of the straight 6 (Chevy).
Good call on keeping it. You'll enjoy cruising in it, we sure enjoy our 65.

I haven't done a vin research yet but the heater core hoses are in the center slightly towards passenger side and are pinched a bit from the 455 placement. that's why i assumed the straight six. but thanks for the feedback i will use it as i get more history on her!

Pretty sure all cutlass models came standard with a 330 ci. V8 230 HP 2 barrel, optional 4barrel 290 HP. F85 models came standard with a V6.

A little confused here... I know mine as a Cutlass F85 converable... I think they are the same at least in 64, and later became two separate cars. Since I am fairly new to Oldsmobiles please chime in and educate me. I have the F85 emblem in the center of the front grill and the Cutlass emblems on the fenders

They were all F85’s. Cutlass was the top model option of the F85 line.

64 and 65 F85s came standard with a buick 225 ci v6 You could option a v 8 . 64 and 65 cutlasses came standard with an
Olds v8. You could not get a 6 in them.. 66 first year for chevy straight 6, as an option. All 64 65 cutlasses had F85 and cutlass emblems. They have the same frames, suspensions, and body sheet metal Differences are trim items and engines Confused yet? Parts people list them as seperate models, because they are confused . Nice car by the way

They are separate models with different VINs, but they are the same car. The difference is just trim and what equipment was standard vs optional. For example, the Cutlass came standard with a V8. The F85 came standard with a V6 but the same V8 was an available option. FYI, most parts vendors have well documented errors in their application lists, so don't believe what you read.

Love your new wheels, I think the 64's are very clean looking. Bought mine in 1969

I agree about the rally wheels! To me nothing screams Oldsmobile like they do.
