New Kid in South GA

Hey guys,
My name is JJ and I'm currently restoring a 1979 Anniversary Trans Am with a 403. The build started out as just wanting to "restore" the 403, but has now turned into an all out build up, and the story of the car is the same. Just wanted to "Restore" it, but now it has turned into a Level 1 pro-touring/auto cross build. Here's a few links to my various build threads:

403 Build: http://www.78ta.com/HTAF/index.php?topic=38206.0

Resto: http://www.78ta.com/HTAF/index.php?topic=23669.0

Mark (CutlassEFI) has been a huge help so far in my build and is easily one of the best guys to know when selecting parts that will work together.

I plan to bring my 403 discussion and build thread over to this forum to help guide future "kids" trying to build a decent power 403 with a little direction.

Glad to have finally signed up, after reading for a long time over here on these boards.

Thanks for letting me part of your community, and can't wait to start posting,
JJ

By the way, hopefully someone else around the boards knows where the username comes from!

A Spanish lady cat?

GA= Georgia
TA= TransAM
79= 79

So it all makes sense! Welcome aboard. I fooled with Pontiac F-bodies for many years until the corporate engine nonsense happened, and after that I just never felt I was driving a real Pontiac any more. Last one was a 1984 5-speed car that lost a battle with a Buick.

Ha! I really don't like the 3rd Gen F-bodies. I love 1st gens (dad built Camaros) and I'm into the 2nd gen cars. Everyone in the Pontiac world traditionally says "ditch the 403" but I love this motor. And the past few years they have gained a lot of support!

I've always wanted to drive an oldsmobile, just haven't gotten around to it! Maybe next project..

And you're WAY off ha, but what a great attempt! The 79 does = the Trans Am year in the name, but that's not relevant to the rest of the user name.

Grew up North of Atlanta towards Dallas GA, now I've officially taken up residency in South GA down in Statesboro by Savannah. Should be a hint as to where that user name comes from!

Being from Warner Robins, GAOldsman, is there any machine shops in the relative area that do good Oldsmobile work?

My Oldest daughter is attending college in Statesboro As far as machine shops around the central GA area, I'd say the best around here is Reeves. But I've only seen them crank out a few Olds personally. I heard there was a guy around Griffin that is well known for his expertise in Oldsmobile restoration.

Hmm, I don't need Olds restoration, I'm building a Trans am...just Olds motorwork! And I too am attending college here at Georgia Southern, might know your oldest! Been in the town for a good while, worked at few bigger places in town (One of the bars, and now one of the new largest apartment complexes in town) while attending school, I'm only 21 right now but feeling old!

I'll look into a few of those places. I was thinking about having Vengeance in Atlanta do the work, I know they turn out some GREAT motors, not sure about Olds though.

Hey Jamesbo, thanks for the welcoming!

Where about in GA are ya from?

Would you happen to know of any reputable Olds engine guys around your area? Really looking for someone who knows what they're doing with my stuff! Still leaning towards Veangance in ATL.

Since I'm not a racer, I've got sum phones calls out. I'm getting good reports on Grimes Machine shop in Alpharetta.

With this information ya get Jamesbo's Oklahoma guarantee. If your engine blows in half, You own both pieces.

JJ, welcome aboard, and thanks for choosing to get involved with an Olds forum! The racers love anything Olds powered, promoting Olds engineering at the track. Hope your auto cross, touring build goes well.

Thanks guys! Yeah, I hope the autocross project does turn out great, it's been years in planning.

It looks like I'm going to weigh my options and research between Vengeance, Grimes, and D&A as far as my block work goes.
