64 Super 88
64 Super 88
I posted earlier about a super 88 I had bought, and I finally got it home. It has 19000 original miles and runs like a champ. The carpet is like brand new, but the top of the rear seat has some serious sun rot. It also has a few small dings in the paint. I need help finding the value of this car, I have heard any where from 1000 to 15000 dollars in the condition it is in. I believe there where only 19600 of them made, some with pillars and some without. Mine is a pillar car. Any help would be appreciated.
You are correct in that the '64 Super 88 was available in two 4-door versions, a post sedan (called "Celebrity" Sedan) and a pillarless (hardtop) sedan (called "Holiday" sedan). Production of the post version was 19,736, so your source is pretty much correct. Production of the hardtop was slightly less at 17,778.
Without some photos, it's hard to judge the exact condition of your car. The low mileage is wonderful, but from your description of the paint dings and rear shelf rot, it's certainly not a show-quality car.
According to Collector Car Market Review, your car in #3 condition, which sounds like a reasonable description of your car if not a bit generous, has a value of about $3,100. Add and subtract, of course, for the various positives and negatives of any particular car.

If you were thinking/hoping that the car might be worth more, yes, the low mileage will help, but, in general, 4-door cars are just not as sought-after as the two-door coupes and convertibles, so regardless of condition, there's a limit to just how valuable these cars will be. Remember, desirability is a factor in value along with condition and rarity. If a car is not intrinsically highly desirable, it won't command much value regardless of how rare it is or how pristine its condition.
In any event, we would really like to see some photos. Congrats on the great find!
