Welcome to the site Bill! A post car has a metal frame around the door window glass that's part of the door. A hardtop doesn't. When you roll down both the front seat and back seat windows its all wide open on a hardtop. But a "post" car has a metal post between the front and back seats when both are rolled down. John

Welcome

Hey Billybear: Welcome to the Classic Oldsmobile Forum! This is a question even I can handle! A post car has piller, "B pillar" just behind the driver's door. A hardtop has no post there. How's that?

Sometimes, I even surprise myself!
