Hi. My first car was a 74 Cutlass I bought with my own money from working over two summers. Cost me $2000 in 1979. Had 65,000 miles on it. Medium blue with full white vinyl roof and white interior. Base model. Column shift, bench seats, no power accessories to speak of. No AC, aftermarket turbine looking mag wheels. Loved that car. Had it for my last two years of high school in Maine and all of college near Boston. Road salt tore it up. It sat outside all the time. Mom and Dad's cars were in the garage. At one point I think I paid $600 to fix the rust and repaint it. A few years later, the little metal holding all the bondo together rusted out. Could lift the carpet on the driver's side and see the road. Exhaust came into the car from the trunk area. Gave to my sister, but she soon scrapped it. Probably would've crumpled like aluminum foil if it hit anything. Anyway, about two years ago, found a 27,000 mile all original 76 Cutlass Salon in Canada on Hemmings. I think it has just about every option but T-Tops and SSIII wheels. I found a set of those wheels and put new tires on it. Car appeared to have been sitting since 1995 as that was the year of the plate on it. Had sheepskins on the seats and an Englebert Humperdinck 8 track and 5 more in the colsole. Just got it back from the paint shop. It just had a lot of little things that bugged me about the paint. No rust to speak of, no metal repair, just some light sanding. It was Mahogany Metallic and has a white bucket seat interior. Picture below is the original paint. Painted a the car a similar color but with a bit more dark red/purple in it. Also on Hemmings just bought a restored 1971 Cutlass Salon convertible. Previous owner is 80 and was selling a number of cars, mostly vintage Porsches. That's what he did, restored Porsches but this Cutlass was his personal car. Supposed to have 56,000 miles. Should be here in a few days from Texas to Sacramento. Matador Red with white bucket seat interior. I guess I have a thing for white interior Cutlasses.
Nice ride.. My opinion 1976 Cutlass was one of the best years just Beautiful... , I was a tad too young in 1976 to buy one, that being said If I run across a low mileage one I will jump one it...
