New Guy...Ne 74 H/O
I owned Classic Oldsmobile in Merrillville, Indiana for many years until I finally closed it down in 2003. A couple of weeks ago I added a '74 Hurst Olds with the pace car decals to my garage of Oldsmobiles. 17,000 mile car with the 455.
I think I am screwed but it has the wrong air cleaner on it...any chance anyone know of one for sale? Also, I am leaving the car as is except for some clean up and minor repairs but the door panels (plastic part) need painting as they look terrible. Anyone know of the right source...SEM code?
Also, the tach does not work apparently...source for repair?
Any help would be appreciated as most of my knowledge is the earlier cars depite the fact that I worked for Oldsmobile Division in '74!

Welcome to the site Steve! Please post pictures when you have time, we all like to see each others toys! Are you still in Indiana? If so we've got several members in your part of the world.

So you were actually an Oldsmobile dealer? Cool.
If you ever have the time, we'd love to hear about how the winding-down process of Oldsmobile affected you over the last few years of the brand and what your thoughts are on why GM discontinued it altogether. That question has been endlessly debated on here, and I think we'd all love to hear from someone who observed the process more or less as an insider. With Olds being the oldest extant car brand at the time, and with its long and (we think) glorious history, no one ever thought GM would kill it off. (Never say never, obviously!)

Steve, I might have that aircleaner. It's a double snorkel and I think is set up for points distributor though your car is probably HEI. I bought it for mine years ago but I've never been completely sure what year it actually is, and I've decided to keep the original single snorkel unit on my 350 car.
I'll look at it next time I'm out in the country. It may be a stretch getting you pics as I am sometimes technologically challenged and have never learned how to take, transfer or post digital pics.
Come on over to 73-77olds.com and someone over there may have it or know for sure which one you need. I am 58thndy there.
Yep- a whole pile of Oldsmobile forums out there for the asking, and we can't get the OCA powers-that-be interested.

Here is the only picture I have today...
I was very involved in Olds during the latter years especially and service on the Oldsmobile Board of Governance. I have probably too much to say about what went down but given my 34 years of working for them and being a dealer I do have a somewhat unique perspective. Heading out to Auburn, IN for the auction so I will have to post the "story" latter.
I no longer live in Indiana...now in the sweetest city on earth...Hershey, PA.
