New guy here

Hello everyone! I have been registered on the site for some time now but have never taken time to post. I have had 20 some odd Oldsmobiles in my life, spent about 10 years working at Olds dealers in the parts department in the late 70's and early 80's. A friend and I just bought a 86 442 in need of a lot of tlc for $600. We plan to keep body and interior stock but replace the anemic engine/trans witth a built 350/350 combo coming out of his 69 Cutlass. As part of my intro, I was wondering how many 86 442s were made. At the time they were new, I was working at a dealership and I only remember us ordering one for a customer. I look forward to all the help and info on this site!

Welcome to the site Chuck! Sorry, I can't answer your question on production numbers of the 1986 442. So is your friend putting something else in the 1969? Please post pictures when you have a chance, and its always interesting to know what part of the country, or what country members are from John

86 442

I live in Denver where the air is thin and sometimes even smells good! My friend has a built 455 he is putting into his 69 Cutlass. His son has a 70 442 that he is putting in his car, so dad gets the 455 coming out of that car. Confusing? Probably! Were all a bunch of Oldsmoholics around here!

Welcome to CO

Sounds like a fun project of musical chairs on the engines. Good luck

Yes, it is a lot like musical engines...errr chairs! The original 307 from the 86 442 has been rebuilt and we are going to put it up for sale to offset the cost of the car. Cant wait to get started on it. We just got finished towing it home an hour or so ago.
