New Guy from Central CT - 1968 442 Convertible

I've been looking through this site since I picked up my 1968 442 Convertible last summer and figured it was finally time to join up. Great community here, with a lot of knowledge that I hope to tap into and contribute when I can. The car is in good driver shape with an Olds 455 in need of a rebuild. I plan to take the car cross country this summer/fall, and in the process of looking for an Olds 350 to take the place of the big block.

Nick

Welcome to the group... Nice looking 68 442 rag top... Any particular reason for changing to a 350, other then gas economy???

Welcome! Nice 442, my favorite year and color.

If you are considering a 350 for fuel economy, back in its younger years, my 350-2bbl w/ the 2-speed Jetaway and 2.78 rear would easily get 20 MPG on the freeway at 70 MPH (the best I ever recorded was 23 MPG with no city driving whatsoever). The irony of this is that my dad's neighbor who sold it to him in '74 replaced it with a new Pinto and he reported the best he got out of that was only 24-25 MPG. Of course in the city, with the tall gears making it slow off the line, my Cutlass struggled to get 13-14 MPG, I'm sure the Pinto did quite a bit better than that (but Eww, what a price to pay!)

Welcome from another CT Olds owner! I had a '69 convertible back in the '70s...still love that car! Hope to meet up with you at some point.

From one newbie 68 owner to another: Welcome! If you were in Southern California I would suggest a 350 core I have. Would to see more pics when you have 'em.
