New guy with a 65 Starfire

Greetings gentlemen, My name is Dave. I have a 65 starfire thats been in the garage waiting for me to rebuild the engine for more years than I've driven it. I drove it in because of a terrible noise coming from the engine. I want to do the work myself so I've been putting it off because I know enough to know that I don't know what I'm doing. The stars are now correctly aligned to create a starfire. Ten years ago I pulled the heads and had them redone now I'm ready ready to tackle the rest. I have been browsing this forum for a while and I am amazed at the wealth of information here. I welcome opinions and suggestions and im hoping that the knowledge and experience found here make this the last time this engine is in need of rebuilding.

Welcome to the site. Not just a Starfire (if that wasn't cool enough) but one of 2236 Convertible's. It's a very neat car. I bet you can't wait to get it in the road !!

I am ready to get it back on the road. I want to go through the engine, transmission, rear end, and suspension before driving it. At that point my plans are to gather all the parts and pieces to fully restore it. I would like to post pics, but my phone is my only source to get online and for some reason I can not upload to an album or thread, when I click on the attachment icon a pop up opens then clicking on "choose file" doesn't access my pics.

I said the same thing about a 64 back in 1983 when I bought it. That poor car still hasn't been restored. 65 is probably the hardest year to find anything for because it uses more one-year-only Starfire-specific stuff than the other 5 years put together. But gawdamighty it is also the most gorgeous of the 6 years- it defines Starfire better than any of them.

Good luck. It's not easy to find and often expensive when you do.
