New Guy 63 Super 88 Question

Hey all, new to the site here. I came across a great deal on a 1963 Olds Super 88 4-door. It has a 394ci engine with a slim jim trans. Body is is great shape. Minor rust here and there. Nothing through. All trim is there and in good shape. Inside is all there and looking good. Someone told me that a 63 with the 394 in it is called a skyrocket and is rare. Can someone help me on this? I do not know alot about old Oldsmoblies. Any and all info would help out alot.

Talking Welcome to CO

Sorry to break the news, you don't have a rare car. But it is still a cool car. Enjoy it, post some pictures so we can see your new ride

SkyRocket is the 330 hp 4-bbl version of 1963 394. It was standard in Super 88 and Ninety Eight and optional in the Dynamic. The Super could have an engine upgrade to the 345 hp Starfire 394, but not common.

Standard Catalog of Oldsmobile shows there were 24,575 S88 4-door sedans and 25,387 S88 4-door hardtops built in 1963 model year, roughly a third as many as the same bodystyles in Dynamic 88 series.

Welcome to CO and I would add that I think most ANY Oldsmobile is rare in comparison to Chevy and Ford cars which were produced in really large numbers comparatively. But some have said that I am biased in that regard.

Welcome. Your car is definitely more rare than a 2002 Ford Taurus. Although, a 1948 Tucker is much more rare than your car.

Thanks all. I will try to post some pics soon. One question is where do i get parts for this thing? Sorry I am a noob when it comes to Oldsmobile. I know that this is not a your everyday car but do they make replacement body panels for this? I have tried to search the net but no luck so far. I just want to make sure what I am getten myself into before I get into it.

Trunk Pans are available on ebay but they're Generic and come in two pieces. Don't know of much else that's new reproduction but tell us where you are located and what you might be looking for, as I know people including myself with parts cars and I know of some Wrecking yards as well with '63s.

You will have to scour salvage yards for body panels. You can get mechanical parts from Fusicks and Kanter.

Landyacht Club Pres.; You should have made it to Halls in Soldier Kansas before he crushed his 3,000 + Oldsmobile's. He sure had some real good Sheet Metal and his location was right, because he was in the middle of the Great Old U.S. of A. I bought some stuff with a friend of mine back when the Olds Nationals were in Omaha Nebraska. Where were You back then, I didn't see you there?

You have never heard of Hall's Oldsmobile Salvage in Soldier Kansas, well did you ever miss out on the buys of a Life Time as you could buy any kinda part you wanted, everything was lined up in era of Years. and if you wanted to buy a complete car you could do that as well. When Vehicles were stripped there wasn't anything left on the ground, it was like a Vulture had been at each car. Living so close I'm surprised you've never heard of Halls Salvage, he was sure a main stay for the Oldsmobile enthusiast until he got sick.

That is a bummer that this place closed down. Sort of sounds like Shangrila or Xanadu.

Sorry for the delay on pics. I must be the only person in the world right now that does not have a digital camera. I guess that's what happens when you let your 2yr old try and take pics. She thought it would be funny to throw it right on the ground.
