question.... whats the difference in a 88 and a super 88?

 

Several things for sure. One is the engine. In an 88, the base engine was a 230 hp version of the 324 V-8. A 240 hp version was optional. For the Super 88 (and the 98), the 240 hp version was the standard engine.

Undoubtedly there was additional chrome trim and perhaps some items were standard on the S-88 that were options or not available on the base 88. There are a number of '50s Olds owners on here who can tell you more I'm sure.

The '56 88 Holiday Coupe had a base price of $2,555. The Super 88 Holiday Coupe cost $2,763, a little over 8% more.

56Rocket. welcome aboard I love the 50's era cars. Your color scheme is the same as mine one of the best made in that year I think .

The biggest difference in a super over a regular 88 is the 4 bbl carb(same basic engine) and the trim badging. Also a super was available in leather where as the 88 was not.During these years you could almost order a car anyway you wanted so exceptions are common. What parts are you needing and where are you located?.... Tedd

 

Very nice, I have always liked the red and white combo paint scheme.

 

Mostly bumpers, side view mirror, antenna, dont want a show car just a nice driver in the spring and summer of course live in central pa near Harrisburg ,cant wait til spring carlisle now that i have something to shop for

 

The bumper is going to be the big one. They come up on Ebay every now and then, but unless it's near to you the freight becomes a problem. Or get one off a donner car if you can find one. Is your old one rebuildable? Mirrors are available from Fusick and USA Parts Supply.These are re pops and are some what expensive but look as good as OEM. The antenna you can get at Auto- Zone Just get a universal type antenna, they look almost identical to the original, are cheep and work fine.....Tedd

 

been buying some stuff as i can find, a bumper was just on ebay and sold for $566 plus shipping of $147 guess Ill know better what they go for next time.My bumpers are good and straight just need to be re chromed which i was told approx $1200 to get done?

 

Sounds about right. When I had both bumpers redone on a '64 Jetstar 88 back about 1993, it was about $200 per bumper. I've heard that it's now gotten to the $500 to $700 apiece range, so $1200 for two of them sounds right on.
