New to Forum, but long time lover of Olds

Hello Everyone,

Happy to be here and thank you for having a forum dedicated to the love and admiration of the Oldsmobile. When I was 17, I begged my father to trade in my Ford Tempo that I learned to drive on for a shiny 1983 Cutlass Calais. I LOVED that car. Blew the V6 in that and was fortunate enough to get it back with a like V6. I installed nice mags, a rear spoiler and upgraded the stereo and I was thrilled. I loved that car!

Fast forward 32 years and I now bought my long coveted 1971 Cutlass S. It's gonna be a project car. Mechanically, she is sound but will need some body and paint work. The more I look and explore, the more I see needs fixing. Im ok with that because I LOVE this car. Thanks Everyone!

Thank you for all the compliments - I appreciate it.

Her name is Ruby
She looks great from 20 feet but don't let that fool you. She is a wonderful car and has alot of giddy up in the 350 under the hood, headers and cherry bombs. But, who ever did the paint 11+ years ago, didn't prep the surfaces well. She has clear coat that is peeling on hood, truck and top that looks like healing sunburn. She also has cracks in paint and I can see where it looks like she was painted with no primer - appears to be metal underneath the paint. I think she'll need sandblasted or stripped and repainted.

There are some issues I need to figure out. the only gauge that works is the speedometer I need to figure out:
Tack
Gas Gauge - hopefully sending unit, Oil etc
Will need to drop gas tank to figure that out I guess
PRNDL display doesn't work so I'm counting movement of gear shifter to determine which gear I'm in
Some interior trim
Blower doesn't work for heater so need to figure that out - AC was taken out a long time ago - don't care about that right now
Headlights go out randomly at night and come back on after 2 seconds - may be a short somewhere
No horn and appears steering wheel doesn't move to allow it to activate - will need to replace

I've got my list!

Thanks guys!

Fletcher
