New to the forum

Hi Everyone, I'm Tom.. I just picked up a 1965 442...Im from Lansing Michigan where the car was built. Needs a lot of work but I am doing for my Dad. He retired from Gm. He hired in 1965. Few months after he ordered 65 442. Drove it until 1967 when he was drafted into the Army and went to Vietnam. He has told me about this car my whole life. So now its time for me to give something back for the great father he was. Anyway I'm sure I'll be lookin for advice and ideas along they way. Just wanted to introduce my self

Welcome Tom, This is a great site particularly for the 60s cars. A lot of knowledge and almost all are very willing to help as long as you do your homework first. Lots of knowledge stored on the various forums that can be searched. Its a great thing you are doing for your Dad. He obviously raised you right.

Welcome to C.O. and howdy neighbor! The Oldsmobile homecoming is coming up next Saturday on Parsons drive in Dimondale state of Michigan operations complex. You might find some goodies for your rig there?

Welcome. I am new here also and also another one who is keeping a 442 in the family. Is it warming up in Michigan yet?

Welcome to this site! In my opinion, classicolds is the best Olds site going and the others who have responded are right - there is a tremendous amount of knowledge here. When you have questions, ask...you will get knowledgeable and detailed answers!

If you haven't already done so, I highly recommend that you get an assembly manual and a chassis service manual for your car. They are invaluable in the restoration process. There are several parts suppliers as well but may I suggest to you that one of the best is Fusick Automotive Products Inc. in Connecticut (www.fusick.com). Another good one, especially for mechanical parts, is Supercars Unlimited in Oregon (www.supercarsunlimited.com). You can view their on-line catalogs at their web sites.

I did something similar to what you are now doing. I rescued my dad's '68 4-4-2 from my sister and restored it for my dad. Dad bought it new and he always said it was the best car he ever owned. My sister drove it hard for 5 years and tore it up, then tore it apart in 1981 to supposedly restore it. I got it in pieces in 2003 and put it back together, completely restored to factory-like new condition, in 2007 for my dad. He drove it once with a big smile on his face, and then he gave it to me. He was quite happy but I was the fortunate one. Dad is gone now, but his car lives on with me!

Enjoy the restoration process. It will be dirty at times; there will be roadblocks at times; but just keep at it. You will thoroughly enjoy the finished product and I know your dad will, too!
