New to forum

My name is Tony and I'm new to the forum. I just bought an '84 Delta 88 with 53k on it.

A bit of a background:
My grandparents bought an '84 Delta 88 brand new in '84. My dad got it around '96 or '97 when he needed a vehicle. At that point my grandfather passed and my grandmother hadn't driven since the early '90s. I got to drive the car in high school for about a year or 2 till I got rear ended. Then it sat for a few years then got scrapped.

Fast forward to last week when I saw an '84 on craigslist. I had seen it a couple months ago on craigslist but he was asking way too much for me to even call about it. So last week the price was right and I bought it.

It's the same exact car my grandparents had. Except theirs didn't have a passenger side mirror or a split bench.

The people I bought it from were one of the nicest I've dealt with on craigslist. It was the wife's mothers car. She was pretty adamant about it going to a good home. Also there's a stack of receipts dating back to '88.

The only issue I have with it is that it needs the lower trim pieces for the vinyl top.

Looks really clean. All of those receipts will help you guess what it might need next. Good find!

Congrats

I like the color. Very clean looking car. Enjoy the ride. Those ride like Cadillacs. A hubcap should be easy to find on CO.

Thanks everyone!

It does have some rust on the pass. rear door but other than that it's pretty clean. Next year I'll probably get another set of wheels for it. I'm thinking an Olds rally wheel.

I should check with my father. He might have saved the wheel covers from the last Delta 88 we had. I know he did have a set of olds moonies. He may have gotten rid of everything.

Welcome. I'm surprised you could still get a three speed trans in 1984. Is it a V6?

I've got more photos I'll upload later tonight after work.

When I bought the car last friday the chimes worked. Key in ignition with door open, fasten belts and so on. When I drove the car home tuesday none of it worked. I've checked the fuses and all are ok. Also the fasten belts light comes on late and fades out. I've tried testing the tone generator with no luck. Any ideas on where else I can look? It's annoying because I kinda like it and sometimes I do leave the headlights on and it's a nice reminder.

As far as the chimes not working. I did get 3 sets of keys with the car. I think it may be possible that the set I'm using now isn't going into the ignition far enough. Thoughts?

Welcome, that is a neat old car. They were and still are very comfortable cars to drive.

I can't help you with the chimes you describe, but as long as the key starts the car you'
re still good. Enjoy it for what it is.

If you have a good braking system and other rubber components it will last for some time. Belts hoses, tune up, you're good.

I'm not sure what to do for those cosmetic references in your pics.? Clean them good, wax and some kind of seal or treatment?
