New Dutch Oldsmobile owner.

Hello,

If I did understand well I first have to introduce myself.

My name is Harm Hendriks, married and we have 3 sons. Bram, 24, Luc, 22 and Sjors, 19 years old. One family of car lovers, mostly American. Together with my wife we have another passion, breeding Great Danes.

I started my passion for American cars with a 1979 Chevrolet Blazer and bought in March 2015 my 1966 Oldsmobile 98 Luxery Sedan. This car is imported to The Netherlands in 2001. Unfortunally I do not have any information of former owners, neither I do not know were the car comes from in the US.

The Oldsmobile is, according to the VIN, from May 1966. I'am also from May 1966, so this makes it more special for me. The car needs some bodywork, under the rear window is some rust and the interior needs new clothing. The car is pink, I think it was already when it came form the US. The original color is red, I believe target red and had white vinyl roof, now more brown/yellow.

I hope to find a lot of knowledge and help on this forum. I still hope to find more info were the car originally came from in the US but that won't be easy.

I work, together with 2 of my sons and a friend on our cars. We have a barn were the cars are stored and were we work on them. The pictures are not made at my place.

Welcome. That car looks to be in really good shape. I actually like the pink color - for whatever reason it works.

Welcome to C.O.! If you can find you protect-o-plate we may be able decode what dealer the car was delivered. It should be with your car information usually the owners manual holder.

That color looks like Sunset Mist/ Antique Rose that Olds (and Buick) used in 1962-63. Your Ninety Eight wears it well. It's possible the vinyl roof has discolored some, but also possible that the roof color is Parchment White instead of the usual white.

Good looking car and your family and friends have some interesting stuff!

Stay with us here for Oldsmobile info, but with the variety of cars you have I recommend visiting the Antique Automobile Club of America's website www.aaca.org. We have a lot of European friends there too- a young French guy with a 1969 Buick Electra just joined.

Thank you all. The pink color fits the car, I get a lot of compliments, thumbs up and smiles. Maybe the smiles can mean something else, mmhh.

In Holland American cars are not very common, and people like them or hate them, but the Oldsmobile, in the pink color is accepted by many.

Unfortunally I have no papers, nothing came with the car. The guy were I bought the car from could only tell me he bought the car 3 months before me.

I hoped I could do something with the VIN, is it not registered in the US and possible to trace it. Also strange, in the Dutch licenceplate the date of first entry in the US would be Februar 28 th 1966. I think this is done because they didn't know the exact date, and according to the VIN the car is from the last week of May 1966. I've seen this with more older American cars, you see often that the date when the car was registered on the name of the first owner is set on Februar 28 th.

I will enter the VIN here maybe I am wrong: 386696M374785

A nice "Yank Tank!" Here, we would definitely not call the color pink. Rather, it is a much more acceptable rose. (This is a poor attempt at/example of American humor?)

Ok, from now I tell everybody it is acceptable rose. Funny thing is, in Dutch pink is roze, so here it makes no difference. Only I will ad acceptable to it.

Brain (BTW ),

I didn't receive anything with this car. Because I'm not the first owner in Holland and it is not possible to get information of former owners. But I will try to find other ways.

Here is a picture of the VIN:

Is this what you ment with body tag
