'67 442 radio mount space
I know I have the correct AM radio but it seems the hole in the dash is too large ( height 1/2" too big on top and width over all maybe 1/4", 1/8" on each side)? Thinking maybe original radio for mine was an AM / FM ? Were they larger? Is there a bezel to make up the dif between the two?
Need help with radio mount space, '67 442

You are missing the finish trim here it is installed. I have one in my shop can get you a picture in the morning of what it looks like off.
I have found there is three different versions of these. If you have am-fm it is two piece but with straight am it is one piece. You can see in these two pictures the two piece with the am-fm and with the autosound replacement radio the one piece.

The second picture in my last post is a factory AM-FM with the face plate on. The first picture is the factory face plate for a radio like yours. You can see it fills in the top I will get you a picture of the piece off later today. I am pretty sure I have one.
Lemoldsnut, thx for the informative info. Magnification of the pic of the AM definitely shows the rectangular black with a smaller rectangular silver trim line around the perimeter. that is the piece I'm missing. Is that available as a repro.? Do I understand you have one your not using?
Thx

Never knew there was a different faceplate for the AM/FM in the 67 Cutlass. Found this pict on Ebay so yes as mentioned there are 2 different faceplates with the AM/FM being 2 piece. The AM radio uses the one piece faceplate.
In looking at the 2 pics lemoldsnut posted you can see the two radio options required different size openings. Even magnified it looks like the area above the AM radio I described in post #13 could be part of the dash and not a trim piece? The AM / FM radios space is definitely taller by the same amount the AM /FM button and bar take up. Thinking either the hole sizes are different depending on the option or there is a very neatly done piece of black trim with the siver rectangle I described available some where?
They look like this when off.
Usually I see the two piece type on 66 cars and any car that had factory AC needs the shorter one as well.
I don't have any for sale currently but check now and then as they do come in.
Thanks

Not sure how you get that yours had an am-fm to start with,. It was a very rare radio as most did not use FM back then. Am was very common and they go for up to about $150 working. AM-FM is another ball game completely. I have seen them as much as $750. And they clearly are not great radios. Nothing back then was. For $250 you can put an aftermarket replacement in like I did in the upper pictures and it fits with no modifications and works great. You can plug in just about any device to it as well. You can't get the old radios serviced for that. There is a few companies that will put new internals in the factory AM and make it do the same so you retain the look of original and yet have a modern radio.
Just some thoughts

Lemoldsnut, my rational for thinking mine might have had the FM is, the opening size & trim looks like your 2nd and 3rd style trim pcs in pics in post 18 which I believe are for the AM/FM application. There doesn't seem to be any indication that my dash configuration has been modified, nothing looks cut black paint all looks correct and matches the rest of the dash. The radio which I got with my '67 was in boxes supplied with car and I mounted it and discovered the issue so while the correct AM most likely wasn't original to my car.
As you indicate brobably the economical and "correct look" way to go is to look for the correct trim ( I will continue to check with you ) and take / send my AM and have it converted to do the FM, and have ports for other outputs while looking the same.
Thx again,

The dash opening is always the same. I ran my cords for aux inputs to the ash tray so I just open it and there they are to use. Works great.
Your dash is missing the trim completely. It looks like you have the center piece so you need the shorter one. Watch radio listings for 66-67 they are on them some times.
I get them now and then too.
Hope all this helped
