New Cutlass Guy From NOLA!
Hello all!
I'm finally getting the chance to introduce myself to the forum community and am very glad to be participating!
I live in the suburbs of New Orleans, which has been home my whole life. Back in the '80s during my high school days, the hot rodding scene in the area was huge. My ride at the time was a 1970 Chevelle that my dad and I towed home and brought back to life. He taught me bodywork and how to tear down and rebuild an engine, skills that I've never forgotten and have used intermittently through the years.
My second Chevelle was a '68. This one we left mechanically stock and I learned to love the simplicity of a 307 with a 2-barrel and a 2-speed power glide!
In the '90s I found my way to the dirt track and built a street stock that was a '78 Cutlass with a 350 Chevy. I ran that car on and off for 6 years, finally getting out after barrel rolling it during a race.
Sensibility took over and I bought a '56 Bel Air, with a hot rodded 350 and 4-speed Muncie. I still have that car and take it annually to Cruisin' the Coast in Mississippi. My wife, however, would rather something that doesn't rattle her teeth!
Which brings us to what brought me here to Classic Olds...
She's been a fan of the '68-'72 series Cutlass, and I wanted to try to do something with a convertible. We lucked out last month and found a '71 project car about an hour away in Thibodaux - the town immortalized in Jerry Reed's song, "Amos Moses!" It's now in the garage and we're exactly 1 week into the tear down.
I plan to keep it stock and need to find a Rocket 350 and TH350 to build for it, but otherwise it's pretty complete. It's Matador Red and black, but I'm pretty sure we're going to go with a different factory color and lighter interior.
I'll be posting questions every now and then and that's really why I'm here - I hope to learn from everyone else's mistakes because I don't have time to make them all myself!
Looking forward to the new friendships!

Welcome to the site Bill! Thanks for sharing your story, and about the new toy your working on. When your ready, create a parts wanted thread with the details of what you want and your location. I've got several 350's and TH350's but I'm out in Oregon. I'm sure there's several members closer to you that will have what you need.
X2 on looking forward to pictures of your car.

Thanks for the welcome!
I do plan on posting a ton of pics of the project and will also include the other cars as well. Last night I didn't see the paper clip thing to attach pics, and now I do, so I'll start with some basics shortly.
