New car. been sitting.

I just bought a 67 delta 88 4 door hardtop. Its been in a barn for a while but with regular starts. I know I need to change the oil, brake fluid, and flush the radiator. Is there anything major I'm missing? Maybe dump the gas too?

Talking Welcome to CO

Yes dump the gas if it is old, change the gas filter as well. Would not hurt to flush out the brake lines and master cylinder and install new brake fluid as well. Don't forget the radiator, drain, flush and install new coolant too.

Well, it seems you did ok. That "was parked next to something that got very warm" comment is a little spooky.

yeah I agree. But the interior door panel looked fine so hopefully thats a good sign. I'll give it a good once over once I get it. I might be in the market for door skins or doors if anyone knows a source.

Yes, and you paid a very nice price for it, anyway, so if it ends up needing a little work, well, that's to be expected.

I have a '67 Delta 88 convertible which I've had for just over a year now. If you have questions once you get yours, ask. For example, I can tell more than you would ever want to know about replacing the fuel tank sending unit. I've also rebuilt the carburetor (mine's a 2-barrel), replaced all the shocks, and redid the brakes, including new wheel cylinders, on all four wheels. It still needs lots of things, including a paint job, but one thing at a time. It's quite driveable as is, and I've been enjoying it. The top's been down since about the beginning of May.

You can have a look at it here:

Yes, those are aftermarket seat belts in the front. When I got the car, there were no rear seat belts (they had been cut out) and only the outboard front belts. I bought some period-correct belts for the rear off of ebay, but I went with new, aftermarket for the front. I know they're not correct. Sue me. They were a hell of a lot cheaper, they look great, and they work fine.

Car Sitting

You will certainly have to rebuild the carburetor. The gas has probably turned to varnish coating the inside of the carb.

I would doubt it given the degree to which the doors extend rearward on a four-door compared to a two-door. In other words, the doors on two-doors are not twice as long as doors on four-doors. But I'm not an expert!

Transmission

I would suggest that you change the fluid and filter on the tranny. The 68 Delmont I have started spitting transmission fluid out of the fill tube, got on the manifold and almost caused a fire. The problem was a stopped up transmission filter.

thanks. I'll add that to the list.
1 change oil
1.1 new fuel
1.2 new fuel filter
2 flush radiator
3 service brakes (not sure what it needs yet)
4 new brake fluid
5 new transmission fluid
6 new air filter?
