New 72 Cutlass convertible member
Hello. I'm a new member to this forum, however, I have been a long time owner of several cutlass' (4-1972's, 2-1969's, one of which was a 442 w/ a 4-speed, and 1-1981). The current Olds I own is a 1972 cutlass "U" code 455ci convertible, with a dual gate shifter, tilt steering wheel and AC. The car is in excellent shape, I just rebuilt the motor last year (which is how I know it's a numbers matching car), I currently have headers on it, but I'm probably gonna go back to the original dual exhaust manifolds this year. My question is, I would like to make it a 442 clone, but I would like some advice from fellow Olds guys in doing so. Should I, or not? I don't plan on ever getting rid of the car, if that makes a difference in any advice. Thanks. I'll get some pics up soon.
PS. I also own a 1971 big block SS Monte Carlo.

Welcome to the site! Everyone likes to see pics.
Regarding your question - It is your car, do what you want. However, I am not sure that I would turn it into a clone if is a nice car. I do not know what the production numbers are, but your car may be as rare or more rare than a 442 - I'm sure that others can answer that for you.
My car is a 442 painted as a W-30 by the previous owner. I would not have done that, but the price was right, so we bought it. You could do some of the reversible 442 mods like rear sway bar, HD springs, etc. That would make the car more enjoyable to drive.
